BusinessWeek Covers Domains: “The Domain Name Business” - BusinessWeek just published a story on domain names, entitled “The Domain Name Business” Nothing revolutionary here but always good to see domains discussed in a positive light  as an investment vehicle by the mainstream media, and it doesn’t get much more mainstream than BusinessWeek. Congrats to Jeremiah Johnston CEO of Sedo.com for again being widely quoted and actually serving as the sole interview for the article. I’m not keeping count but this makes several articles I’ve read in ... read more ...

But then the potential Yahoo and Google hookup scared the crap out of me, which put things in perspective. I think it’s safe to say that a Yahoo-Microsoft hookup ... read more ...

Toys ‘R’ Us Relaunches Toys.com Without Search Rankings - Toys ‘R’ Us domain name forwarding mistake back in the picture. Oh brother. A few months ago I wrote about Toys ‘R’ Us forwarding its newly purchased ($5.1M) domain name Toys.com to ToysRUs.com. This resulted in the company losing its search rankings for Toys.com. The story was viewed 30,000 times. Some people hypothesized that Toys ‘R’ Us didn’t care about the search rankings and only bought the domain name to keep it away from competitors. Experienced Web Users Still Use Direct Search - My recent online car shopping experience is an example of an experienced web user using direct search. Do experienced web surfers use direct search, or is it limited to the inexperienced? I’d argue that both use it. I consider myself an experienced web user. I use direct navigation — typing a domain into the browser — all the time. But this is navigation, not search. It’s domain names like Amazon.com, StlCardinals.com, and DNW.com. As for direct search ... read more ...

Domain Registrar eNom Sued. Here’s My Take. - Man sues eNom after domain (not in his name) is transferred to someone else. One of the costs of doing business as a domain registrar is the inevitable lawsuits. Most of these are trademark suits where the plaintiff includes the registrar of a domain name as an defendant. Views of Domain Industry’s Prospects Colored by Local Economy - Domainers’ views of industry are shaped by what’s going on close to home. I worry about the U.S. government’s debt, the threat of inflation, etc. But I also think your view of the world is shaped by your local economy. Here in Texas, ... read more ...
