Most .mobi Domains Won during Sedo Auctions are Out of Compliance - A review of auctions won at first .mobi domain auction shows most are out of compliance. When mTLD, the registry for .mobi domains, hooked up with Sedo to auction off premium domains, they probably had no idea how successful it would be. Successful, that is, in terms of sales prices. But there’s another side of the coin, and that is compliance with mTLD’s auction rules. Participants in the auctions are bound by several rules, including: The Website may initially ... read more ...

Domains Are Cheaper than Booze - On Saturday we reported from the Art Basel show in Miami and compared the prices of art work to domains. Now comes the report from the Christie’s auction held this past Saturday in New York that a bottle of 1926 Macallan Scotch sold for $54,000, or $2,100 an ounce. It set a record for a bottle of scotch. It also beat expectations. The total generated at the distilled spirits auction was just over $300,000. Also exceeding expectations. As we keep saying there is a tremendous market for anything ... read more ...

Article: Domain Parking “Parasitic” - Article calls parked domains parasitic, but doesn’t explore the alternative. In a recent article at Times Online, Jonathan Weber says that parked pages, by their definition, are parasitic: If you type in “debts.com” for example, you get a site filled with nothing but paid links to other sites. Presumably, this is not what someone going to that page is looking for, but it’s a nice business for the domain owner. It seems peculiar and unjust that so much money ... read more ...

Domains Are Cheap!!!!!!!!!!! - I spent seven hours at the huge Art Basel Show in Miami yesterday. I saw the obligatory canvases painted completely white (25k+), Black (65K+) and a very pretty green color priced, at a no doubt what is a steal, at $335,000. Also on display were the white canvas with simply words like “die collector scum”, and “meat is death”. I also got to see the back doors of what appeared to be a 60′s volkswagen bus placed on the wall, a bunch of clothes on the floor and more hanging from the ... read more ...
