News.net sells for $150,000 during Sedo - Sedo.com sold News.net for $150,000 last week, one of the (if not the) highest reported .net sales I can recall. SnapNames auctioned off PhoneFree.com for $61,361. I’d like to see the look on the face of the person that let that domain name expire! There were a couple more .ws domain sales last week as well. Lawsuits.ws sold for $600 and Documents.ws sold for $450. .info had a few great sales: Golfreisen.info (German) for €4,000, Lima.info for $2,500, ... read more ...

Bill Cosby wins Fat Albert domain name - In a recent WIPO decision, comedian Bill Cosby won the rights to the FatAlbert.org domain. Cosby complained that the domain was registered in bad faith and linking to adult web sites. The registrant of the domain, Sterling Davenport, didn’t even bother responding to the WIPO complaint. It’s not like Sterling Davenport had any defense. A quick check of WhoIs records shows that Bill Cosby’s law firm holds ownership of FatAlbert.com. However, FatAlbert.net ... read more ...

Apple needs to get the domain name plan together - For being an innovator in the technology market, Apple is a laggard in the domain name market. One of the biggest domain name disputes in recent memory is over iTunes.co.uk. I won’t go into the details of this dispute, but you can read my previous posts here. Now it seems that Apple failed to register the domain IpodNano.com before announcing the new device to the world. A message on IpodNano.com says the domain is for sale, and according to WhoIs it was registered ... read more ...

Domain name sales continue to explode - DNJournal posted domain name sales for the past two weeks…and the domain name market shows no signs of cooling off. The GoDaddy Blog: Over a top? - GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons has always been outspoken. But I have to question the purpose of his “personal” blog, which is closely tied to the company. You can click to the blog from the very top of the GoDaddy home page, so it is certainly endorsed by GoDaddy. Granted, Bob Parsons owns most of the company. A lot of corporate CEOs have blogs. They usually blog about the industry, and this pays dividends. A CEO at a company here in Austin uses his blog to talk ... read more ...

Spamhaus slams Yahoo for domains registered - Spamhaus has slammed Yahoo for allowing the registration and/or hosting of thousands of domain names that can be used in phishing attacks. These domains have words in them like “bank”, “ebay”, and “PayPal”. Obviously, not all of these are used for phishing attacks…some might be reviews or services related to eBay, PayPal, and various banks. I’d be curious to see the breakdown between “bank” and the other keywords, since there are plenty of legitimate ... read more ...

New Trafficz Templates, More on D.O.S. Attacks - Trafficz has created some of the most attractive generic templates for parking pages. EbbFlow.com is one example. Their payouts are improving too, but they are not as high as industry leaders Domain Sponsor and Gold Key. Most of the parking services have settled-down after last month’s denial-of-service attacks. I share my opinions about the reasons for these attacks in the September issue of Domain Parking News. – Leonard Holmes ... read more ...

Katrina.com - Katrina Blankenship has owned Katrina.com for 7 years. But it wasn’t a big deal until the massive hurricane hit the Gulf Coast. She has converted the site from a person/small business site to a resource for hurricane victims. The sad part is that a number of people have tried to con her into giving the domain up. Registrar provides giveaway .CN domain names - The largest domain name registrar in China is giving free .cn domains to its current customers who already own .com or .net versions of domain names. Apparently, Chinese officials believe that owning a .cn domain name is patriotic. My guess is it makes it easier for the Chinese government to censor the web Registrar provides free .cn domain names ... read more ...

Unsavvy politicians - When will politicians learn? A college student in Nebraska registered the name of a local politician running for a district seat. The politician, Tony Ojeda, is mad. But the college student didn’t even register the domain until 2 weeks after Ojeda announced his candidacy! Ojeda also claims to have been in politics for 15 years. What politician doesn’t register his own name? There should be an internet guide for aspiring politicians. Gateway – Nebraska Legislature ... read more ...
