3 reasons we shouldn't flog yourself for offered a brief domain name too soon - Here’s why you shouldn’t have sellers remorse. With the rapid rise in values for three and four character domain names, I’ve read some commentary from people kicking themselves for selling domain names too soon. Call it seller’s remorse, and it’s a feeling I think we’ve all had. But comparing the price you sold a domain name for and how much you could get for it today is irrelevant. It’s hindsight. Here are three reasons you shouldn’t beat yourself up too much: 1. Even if you held ... read more ...

At what cost would it make clarity to sell a DNW.com domain name? - I’ve never considered it before, but perhaps I should Three letter domain names continue to go up in value, and I receive daily offers from China for DNW.com. For the most part, this is a non-starter for me. After all, I use the domain name for this site. But at what price would it make sense to reconsider selling it? I don’t actually host the site on DNW.com. I use the domain name in a few ways: 1. A type-in shortcut to send people to DomainNameWire.com. 2. As a URL shortener. 3. Word-of-mouth. ... read more ...

IEC.com saved in UDRP - NGO loses attempt to get valuable domain name. International Electrotechnical Commission, a non-governmental organization, has lost a UDRP it filed against the owner of IEC.com. Although the respondent is listed as IEC Communications Ltd., it appears it’s really a domain name investor. The respondent said it acquired the domain name because of the value of rare 2 and 3 letter domain names, not to target International Electrotechnical Commission. This is most likely the case, and the three person ... read more ...

Do 3 minute domains have any genuine value? - Is a domain name worth something if it’s just traded amongst investors with limited potential value to an end user? Three letter .com domain names are very popular right now, with prices increasing significantly over the past year. Much of the demand comes from domain traders in China. China itself is experiencing a bubble in tech stocks that rivals (or surpasses) the NASDAQ 15 years ago…perhaps including the ensuing bust. Will the value of three letter .com domains face a similar fate to other ... read more ...

Kevin Ham successfully defends UDRP opposite SNF.com - SNF.com saved in UDRP decision. Kevin Ham’s company Vertical Axis has successfully defended a UDRP filed against its domain name SNF.com. S.P.C.M. SA filed the complaint. It appears to be affiliated with a company that owns SNF.fr. The complainant tried to argue that Vertical Axis was “willfully blind” to its trademark when it registered its domain. Of course, there are lots of companies and organizations that use three letter acronyms. Three letter domains ... read more ...

Power Tools Company Loses IXO.com Complaint - Three letter domain name saved by National Arbitration Forum. Here’s a follow up to a domain name dispute I wrote about last month regarding a three letter domain name. A National Arbitration Forum panel has denied the complaint for IXO.com brought by Robert Bosch GmbH, which has a line of power tools called IXO. The decision is in German, so I’m relying on Google’s translator here. But essentially the panel ruled: 1. The owner has a legitimate interest in ... read more ...

Businesses Continue to Buy and Use 3 Letter Domain Names - Three letter domains continue to be hot commodity. With Comwired’s relaunch as DNS.com, I found a recent study by domain investor Nat Cohen on three character domains rather timely. Cohen randomly generated 100 three letter domain names that contained only premium letters (no j, k, q, x, y, z) to see who owned them. Here’s what he found: Small and Medium Business: 51% Large Business: 20% Domainers: 20% Non-profits/Educational/Government/Religious: 2% Personal: ... read more ...

Stat Check: How is Domain Aftermarket Doing? - A statistical look at a slice of the domain name market. Most people agree that the investor aftermarket for domain names isn’t as lofty as it was a couple years ago. Just look at the mood and total sales at live domain auctions for proof. But gathering data to prove this is difficult. Richard Wixom of DNSalePrice recently took at stab at it, but with a different conclusion: the domain aftermarket is doing just fine, thank you. The drop in domain prices over ... read more ...

Low Quality 3 Letter Domain Names Hit Hard Times - Recent sales at Sedo show scarcity is less important than potential use. Domain names aren’t like baseball cards. Just because something is scarce doesn’t mean it’s more valuable. This week’s completed sales of three letter domain names at Sedo show weakness in low quality three letter domain names: MWX.com $4,000 FGZ.com $4,000 VZJ.com $3,499 JQF.com $3,333 This parallels a fad in the domain market during 2008. Because all four character .com domain names ... read more ...
