Google Adsense – HUGE changes! - After doing more research, it is clear that Google’s “animated banner ad” announcement today is a HUGE deal. It’s not the animated banners that matter. It’s that now you can target ANY TYPE OF AD by site rather than by keyword. Site-targetted ads will be sold on a cost per thousand basis only. How this will impact Adsense earnings is unclear. But if people start targetting ads by site rather than keyword, smaller publishers could take a huge hit. ... read more ...

TrafficClub.com paid domain name parking review - I’ve been using the TrafficClub.com paid domain name parking program for about two months, and I’m happy to report great results. Before I go into the review, let me bring some of you up to speed. Paid Parking programs let you “park” your domain with a service that shows ads relevant to your domain name whenever someone visits the domain. They pay you whenever someone visits the domain name and clicks on an ad. Some programs also pay for pop-ups. I used ... read more ...

Yahoo sheds Overture brand - Yahoo has officially dropped the Overture brand name and rebranded it as Yahoo Search Marketing. Yahoo will soon be launching a Google Adsense-like system for syndicating ads across smaller web sites. My guess that this would happen in mid-April was wrong; the clues I found were actually pointing to the rebranding taking place in mid-April. Hopefully this is just one more step closer to Yahoo’s advertising syndication program! ... read more ...

Yahoo inventory offer could change lapsed domain names market - A story on News.com discusses Yahoo’s new free web page offering to local businesses. The free web page also comes with a listing in Yahoo’s local directory. This make sense for Yahoo on a couple fronts. First, they are trying to build their local directory. Second, these local businesses might use Yahoo’s advertising products in the future. How does this affect the expired domain name market? Right now, people buy expiring domains that are still listed ... read more ...

Google Adsense introduces real-time channel reporting - Many domain name owners use Google Adsense, and use Adsense’s channel reporting feature to understand which of their domain names and web sites are performing best. Until now, channel reporting was only available two days later than the clicks actually occurred. Now, Google has announced that channel data will be in REAL TIME, making it much more useful for domain name owners. Google also announced impression vs. page reporting. This is something I’ve been ... read more ...

New sell for domain names launches - A new secondary domain name market option is now available at the registrar level. The Global Domain Name Exchange (GDNX) is an exchange created for and supporting the valuation and transfer of previously registered or held domain names. Its membership is open to ICANN-accredited registrars and registries. Information about GDNX can be found at GDNX.org. This looks promising, but note that this is not a new front end service for the typical domain name owner. Instead, ... read more ...

Will Yahoo’s “Adsense” launch in midst April? - Yahoo’s Overture unit sent out its latest newsletter today, and it vaguely hints that Yahoo’s “Adsense”-like program will launch in mid-April. According to this article, the terms and conditions for advertisers will change in mid-April. It says that this is for a couple reasons, most notably because Overture is changing it’s name to Yahoo! Search Marketing Solutions. But it also mentions that some other changes are in the works. Maybe I’m reading into ... read more ...

TrafficClub now open to public - In a previous post (here) I told you about Moniker’s new TrafficClub program. The program aggregates a number of domain parking services into one, automatically optimizing each domain. My results so far have been mixed. However, it appears that TrafficClub is now open for sign-ups from the general public, since they now have information/sale literature on the web page. I signed up a few weeks ago while visiting SES New York. ... read more ...

Google Adsense adds new features - Google just added two new features available to most Adsense users: 1. Ad Links – as described by Google: Ad Links are a new form of text advertising that we’re offering to our AdSense publishers. Using the same contextual targeting algorithm that targets Google ads to your content pages, Ad Links units display a list of topics that are relevant to your page. Each topic, when clicked, brings the user to a page of related advertisements. The result is advertisements ... read more ...

MSN readies pay-per-click system - In a bid to challenge Yahoo’s Overture and Google Adwords, MSN is planning a pay-per-click search ad business according to Bloomberg. MSN controls a big chunk of the search market, although not as big as Yahoo or Google…and MSN will have to form partnerships to syndicate its ads. Either way, MSN will probably become the third biggest ad network overnight. If they’re successful, look for a Google Adsense type program to follow. Yahoo is currently readying ... read more ...

Yahoo to plea Google Adsense - After a longgggg wait by small web site publishers, Yahoo appears to be on the verge of offering an Adsense-like product, according to CNET News.com. This is great news for web site publishers and domain name owners as there will finally be some good competition. Up to this point, the competition has been weak because content ad providers like SearchFeed and Revenue Pilot have low bid amounts…meaning less money for publishers. Yahoo’s entry might force Google ... read more ...

Moniker Unveils Paid Parking Program - I had a chance to meet with representatives from domain registrar Moniker while at the Search Engine Strategies conference in New York last week. Moniker “unveiled” its new paid parking program at the show, dubbed Traffic Club. “Unveils” is a strong word because they are still working out the kinks. In fact, if you go to TrafficClub.com you won’t find any information; just a login screen. The program seems to be in a limited beta right now. The good ... read more ...
