World Congress skeleton 2nd annual gTLD Summit -
New TLD event to focus on legal aspects of new top level domain names.
Conference organizer World Congress is planning its 2nd Annual Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) Names Summit for this September.
The one day event will take place September 25 at the Affinia in New York City. It is targeted to intellectual property professionals and brand managers.

Donuts hires 6 for sales and marketing -
New top level domain applicant adds sales team ahead of new TLD launch.
Donuts, which applied for more top level domain names than any other company, has staffed up its sales and marketing team.
The company announced six hires today, at least one of which was previously known.
Sales and marketing efforts will be based in the company’s new Calabasas, California (Los Angeles) office.

STRAAT pulls .movie focus as it partners with another company -
Company withdraws .movie application just before initial evaluation results were to be announced.
For the second time in as many months, Nu Dot Co, LLC, a subsidiary of STRAAT Investments, has withdrawn a new top level domain application and partnered up with another applicant.
The latest application withdrawn was for .movie, which faced six competitors.
Last month it withdrew its application for .book.

TLDH and Famous Four strike understanding to solve 3 new TLD row sets -
Deal resolves contention sets for .fit, .review, and .science.
Top Level Domain Holdings (AIM: TLDH) and Famous Four Media (and associated companies) have made a deal to resolve three contention sets.
Under the terms of the deal, Famous Four has withdrawn its application for .fit, leaving TLDH as the only applicant for the string.
In return, TLDH has withdrawn its applications for .review and .science. Famous Four will pay a royalty to TLDH on .review revenue.

Verisign whois secretly returning “no match” results -
Have to submit query twice to get correct result on Verisign’s whois.
Verisign’s whois service for .com and .net is sometimes falsely returning a result of “no match” the initial time you search for a domain name.
For example, if you search for DNW.com on Verisign’s site or via port 43 whois, you’ll get a “no match” result the first time. Click “search” a second time and the correct whois will be returned.

I seems like just last year that I was writing about Escrow.com topping the $1 billion mark. And that’s because it was just last year that the company announced it had crossed the $1 billion transaction milestone.

A new site says it can help entrepreneurs find short, pronounceable, and unregistered .com domain names that they can brand for their business.

Apparently Verisign is value a same with or but cost hikes -
Company’s market cap is back up to October levels.
Just as I don’t understand why the DOW has been hitting all time records lately, I also don’t understand this: Verisign is apparently worth the same with or without seven-percent-a-year price hikes on .com.
When Verisign dropped the bomb on October 25 that the Department of Commerce was reviewing its ability to automatically increase prices, the company had a marketcap of about $7 billion.

After many failed business models, Seattle company DevHub has found a sustainable business model that doesn’t rely on Google.

No surprise: DNForum is your favorite.
DNForum.com has once again been voted the top domain name forum in Domain Name Wire’s annual survey.
The survey of over 500 domain name investors and professionals selected the long running domain forum as the clear winner.
45% of survey respondents selected DNForum as their favorite.
