Long time domain industry exec steps down.
Sedo has just confirmed a rumor that started percolating recently: COO Jeremiah Johnston is leaving the company.
Johnston will remain General Counsel to the company as he opens his own private practice.
Honestly, with Johnston’s involvement with all of the company’s legal business I had kind of forgotten that he was also COO.
He was instrumental in bringing resources and money to Internet Commerce Association, and he ... read more ...

A Smart Whois Verification Feature on Sedo -
Many “sales” of domains people don’t own are by accident.
When domainers let domain names expire or sell them, their first trip usually isn’t to update online sales listings for the domain names.
As a result, most of us have had the experience where we receive an offer on a domain we no longer own or try to buy a domain name through a marketplace only to find that the seller doesn’t own it any more.
Which is why I think this feature from Sedo is smart:

Although auction was boring, sales results are positive.
Many people called Moniker’s Barcelona domain name auction a failure.
It’s easy to see why. After all, the auction didn’t end up taking place in Barcelona thanks to technical problems. Then when the auction took place online, only 5 domains sold.
But for Oversee.net, this was anything but a failure.
As I pointed out a month ago, the total sales from this auction could be Moniker’s best auction since ... read more ...

Is Your Domain Broker Working for You or a Other Party? -
Marketplace brokers need to clearly state their interests.
A couple months ago the founder of a startup reached out to me for advice about getting the domain name that matched their company name. The founder wasn’t having any luck contacting the owner of the domain name but it was listed on a marketplace. He tried to negotiate through the marketplace but ultimately the domain owner was unresponsive.
I suggested he engage the marketplace’s brokers directly given ... read more ...
