GoDaddy blacks out partial of the web site to conflict SOPA -
From bill supporter to blackout.
Did you know that GoDaddy is participating in today’s web blackout to oppose SOPA and PIPA?
OK, so it’s only a 500×90 pixel block below the fold on its home page:
Still, this is noteworthy given that GoDaddy’s prior support for the anti-piracy legislation made waves on the internet last month, leading to a spike in domain transfers to competitors.
GoDaddy reversed its opinion on the bill and now opposes it.
Ironically, some ... read more ...

Will another domainer win a $10,000 .Me grant this year? -
Go Daddy handing out $100,000 in scholarship program that included Brian Diener as a recipient last year.
Go Daddy’s .ME College Scholarship program is returning for another year.
The company will hand out ten $10,000 scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Fall 2012.
Normally I wouldn’t think this particularly newsworthy for the domain name industry, but last year a domain blogger was one of the winners.

A few days later, we released numbers based off of DailyChanges.com which we acknowledged were only a best guess based on changes made to Godaddy’s default servers of DomainControl.com and promised as soon as we had actual numbers we would report them.
Well we have been tracking the daily incoming and outgoing domain name transfers ... read more ...

Elephant hunting and viral internet causes.
Let’s keep our Domain Dunce awards going with Bob Parsons’ elephant shooting video and the aftermath.

PETA joined the party, too, transferring its domains away from GoDaddy and admonishing Parsons.

DailyChanges.com information is widely misunderstood -
Don’t look to DailyChanges.com to see how many domains GoDaddy has lost.
Ever since GoDaddy faced a boycott of its services over its (since changed) position on SOPA, people have been trying to quantify domain losses for the company.
A typical data source is DailyChanges.com, which monitors changes to nameservers.
This is a bad source in this case for two reasons:
