We Paid Six Figures For SexEducation.com & Its In The ROTD NamesCon Auction At No Reserve - We have placed the domain name SexEducation.com which we paid six figures for, into the RightoftheDot.com live/online domain name auction at the NamesCon conference at No Reserve.
The domain name has an Estibot value of $123,000.
It’s a domain we bought as we saw it as one of the only “adult’ type of domain names that you could advertise in mainstream media and would be great for one of the tapes, videos, books and DVD’s you see advertised all the time for “better sex”
The domain name ... read more ...

NamesCon registrations tip 600 -
Next month’s domain name conference in Las Vegas will be a big event.
Registrations for next month’s NamesCon domain name conference have topped 600, conference founder Richard Lau informed Domain Name Wire. Last year at this time, 336 tickets had been sold and the conference ended up with 572.
Assuming the conference gets the last minute surge of registrations that are common at domain conferences, NamesCon could set a record for attendance at a domain investor-organized ... read more ...

Judging by a unite list, NamesCon 2015 is going to be huge -
Already 40 sponsors lined up for January’s NamesCon event.
It may be hard to believe, but NamesCon 2015 is just two months away.
And, judging by an updated sponsorship list for 2015, it’s going to be a very big conference.
Uniregistry is taking top billing for the event, and there are six Gold sponsors: Afilias, Endurance, GoDaddy, Verisign, Right of the Dot and TLD Registry.
I count 40 sponsors in all, not including media sponsors. That’s a lot, and indicative ... read more ...

Conference organizers also say they are adding additional conference space at the Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas. I guess that ... read more ...

Dude, Seriously! What Were You Thinking? The authorised row during NamesCon -
A recap of the legal panel at NamesCon.
A legal panel is a mainstay at domain name conferences. Earlier this month at NamesCon was no different.
Perhaps trying to jazz up a panel full of lawyers, the session was titled “Dude, Seriously?!?? What Were You Thinking?!?” (which looks a lot like the click grabbing headlines on Weather.com).
But seriously, it was a good session. Each person gave a story about someone who fought a fight they shouldn’t have or did something ... read more ...

A Recap: My week during NamesCon -
A recap of what I did, saw, and heard during NamesCon last week.
Last week was the inaugural NamesCon conference in Las Vegas.
In case you weren’t one of the close to 600 people who experienced it in person, everything you’ve heard is spot on: it was a home run. Richard Lau, Jodi Chamberlain, and Jothan Frakes did a fantastic job pulling this conference together in a short period of time. They saw a hole in the domain conference circuit and filled it with zeal. ... read more ...

What WordPress owner Matt Mullenweg pronounced about domain names during NamesCon -
WordPress enforces its brand in domain names and doesn’t plan to use any new top level domain names.
Matt Mullenweg (right) being interviewed by Braden Pollock (left) at NamesCon.One of the nice surprises at NamesCon last week was a last-minute appearance by Matt Mullenweg. Mullenweg created WordPress and is CEO of Automattic, which runs the hosted WordPress.com platform.
Unfortunately, since it was last minute, I did not get to hear his entire QA with Braden Pollock. ... read more ...

After a successful 1st day, NamesCon gets prepared to flog off 2nd and final day -
Second day of NamesCon is about to start.
The first full day of NamesCon in Las Vegas yesterday was a big success. Sure, like any brand new conference, there were a couple hitches here and there. But overall the crowd was big, the content was great, and reviews have been positive.
If you aren’t at the show, I invite you to follow me on twitter for photos and updates about the show as they happen.
I also posted a couple live blogs from yesterday – one for a “meet ... read more ...

Women in Domaining comes to NamesCon -
Event for women in the domain name business will be held Monday afternoon.
Women in Domaining, one of the mainstays of the annual Domainfest/Webfest conference in Santa Monica, will be making an appearance at next week’s NamesCon conference.
Although I have (of course) never attended the event, I think this is great for an industry dominated by men. I highly encourage any women going to the conference to stop in at this event.
The event will take place Monday, January ... read more ...

How to collect that NamesCon sessions to attend -
A handy guide to choosing conference sessions and some of my picks.
The agenda for next week’s NamesCon conference in Las Vegas appears to be basically finalized. For the first time in many years, I’m actually excited about attending some of the sessions rather than just networking with people in the hallways.
Selecting sessions is challenging, especially since there will be three simultaneous breakout sessions.
Here’s how I went about selecting which sessions ... read more ...

Are we going to NamesCon subsequent week? -
Hundreds of you are. Leave a comment if you’ll be there.
Are you going to NamesCon in Las Vegas next week?
If you’re reading this post, there’s a good chance you are. With over 450 people expected to attend, NamesCon will be the biggest domain name conference in a year (excluding ICANN’s meetings).
The huge attendance numbers are good news, but it can also make it more difficult to network. The more people, the harder it is to seek out people you’d like ... read more ...

NamesCon domain name discussion might sell out -
With over 400 attendees, NamesCon is nearing capacity.
I’m not sure what constitutes a “sell out”, but apparently this month’s NamesCon conference is nearing its capacity:
Over 400 people have already registered, making this the biggest domainer-focused conference since Webfest nearly a year ago. This is despite being announced just a few months ago. The timing (with new TLDs finally rolling out) is great, the cost is low, and the content looks better than ... read more ...

7 reasons because I’m going to NamesCon -
Here’s why I’m going to NamesCon next month.
The first ever NamesCon domain name conference takes place January 13-15 in Las Vegas.
Here’s why I’m going to the conference:
1. I was already planning on going to a conference in January.
DomainSponsor usually holds its Webfest conference at the end of January or early February. If Webfest returns next year, it won’t be so early in the year. I was already planning to attend a conference around this time, so ... read more ...

Will NamesCon chaperon in an epoch of inexpensive domainer conferences? -
NamesCon is an inexpensive alternative to most domain name conferences.
NamesCon, a new domain name conference being organized by Richard Lau, will take place in Las Vegas January 13-15.
Right now you can purchase a conference pass for $199.
That’s not a typo. Tickets are $199, and the top ticket price for advance purchase if you wait until closer to the show is only $599.
That’s much less expensive than the two big domain name shows, TRAFFIC and Webfest. Each ... read more ...
