Here is the new gTLD by the numbers:
Number of Apps for a new gTLD: 1930
84 are designated as “community-based”.66 have designated themselves as geographic name applications.
116 applications are Internationalized Domain Names, or IDNs, using non-Latin scripts.
Applications were received from 60 countries:
911 applications came from North America.
675 from Europe.

As many as 1,409 tip turn domains on a way -
1,409 unique top level domain applications submitted to ICANN.
It’s “reveal day”, with ICANN set to reveal the applications for new top level domains at a press conference starting at 8 am EDT today.
This morning ICANN released overall numbers related to the program.

Be ready to prove you’re part of the .shop community if you want to register a .shop domain.
One of the biggest problems I’ve had with the new TLD applicant guidebook is preference given to applications representing a so-called community. This is ripe for gaming.

ICANN’s 2010 Tax Return: Staff Compensation Over $25 Million; Travel $10 Million - ICANN has posted its 2010 tax return for the fiscal year ending June 2011 and is full of goodies.
According to its tax return for 2010 (for year ending June 30 2011) which was filed in May 2012, ICANN showed over $72 Million in Revenue and paid out over $25 Million in compensation with officer, director and key employees totaling $6.5 million.
CEO Rod Beckstrom’s total compensation was just under $1M at $998,230.00
All and all about 40% of all ICANN’s revenue went to pay staff.

ICANN Batching Starts Jun 8th Results Announced Jul 11th - ICANN made the announcement overnight that batching will start on June 8th just after midnight UTC time and close right before midnight June 28th UTC time.
The results of batching will be released on July 11, 2012, all times and dates are “target” dates and therefore could be changed.
ICANN is moving forward with its Digital Archery Program for batching will be done assigning a secondary timestamp to each application using the TAS system.

Set your alarm clocks for a “big reveal” -
Over 1,900 new TLD applications to be revealed June 13.
ICANN today announced details about reveal day, when it reveals over 1,900 applied-for top level domain names.
A reveal news conference is set for Kings Place in London at 1 p.m. local time (noon GMT). That’s 8 a.m. EDT. West coaster new TLD watchers will have to rise a little earlier for a 5 a.m. unveiling.

Pool.com Gets Competition On Its Digital Archery Service As Digital Archery Experts Rolls Out -
According to a press release I just received it appears Pool.com now has a competitor in the ICANN Digital Archery batching service for new gTLD applicants.
“Digital Archery Experts (DAE) is pleased to release its digital archery service designed to secure new gTLD applicants a first batch position in the ICANN secondary time stamp competition.”
The fee is $20,000 which has to be paid upfront but will be “retained ONLY if we succeed in qualifying a client’s string for the batch one”

ICANN: Big Reveal Scheduled For Jun 13th; TAS Closes Tomorrow; Batching Process Begins Jun 8th - ICANN just announced that the Big Reveal date for the new gTLD program, will be held on June 13th.
ICANN went on to say that the TAS, the system by which one makes an application for a new gTLD domain extension, is scheduled to close tomorrow, May 30th, at 23:59 GMT/UTC .
ICANN also said in a newly issued timeline that the Batching process will begin before the ICANN conference in Prague and close during the Prague conference

Dates are finalized and a lot of applicants have work to do before tomorrow.
ICANN just provided a timeline for the new top level domain application process going forward.
The “big reveal” date, when ICANN releases the full list of applicants and the strings they applied for, will be June 13.

ICANN: After The TAS Mess Only 2 Request for Refunds - A few weeks ago during the TAS outage, ICANN issued a statement saying that anyone who applied for a new gTLD or paid to enter the TAS system could pull their application or authorization and get a full refund of any money paid.
Today in a Twitter chat, I asked ICANN how many people requested a refund under this program.
The answer I got was:

Offering an additional $5,000 refund just draws more attention to ICANN’s top level domain system failure.
ICANN’s offer to refund 100% of applicant fees if new gTLD applicants pull their applications was a dumb move.
First, this offer isn’t a big deal. It’s an offer of $5,000 more (just 3%) than the refund schedule previously in place offered if you withdrew your application before names were revealed.

Beckstrom: ICANN May Deny New gTLD Applications If They Got An Unfair Advantage In Seeing Others Info - Rod Beckstrom the CEO of ICANN just told theHill.com, that applicants who looks at other applicants info in an attempt “to gain an unfair edge over their competitors” may have their own application denied.

Breaking: ICANN 2,305 New gTLD Applications Received To Date; 2,091 Paid For - ICANN just announced tonight that when the TAS system was taken down there were 2,091 applications, either submitted or in progress.
In addition, there were 214 potential applications that were registered prior to the March 29th deadline, but whose payments have not yet been received or reconciled.
The total therefore should be 2,305 if payment is received for all applications to date.
Of course there may be additional applications submitted after the TAS system re-opens for the 5 day period.
