ICANN CEO: Until a initial new gTLD is Delegated, Akram Attalah & we Will Personally Oversee a Whole New gTLD Program - According to a blog post by the CEO of ICANN Fadi Chehadé, he and Akram Attalah will “personally oversee the whole new gTLD program until the 1st new gTLD is delegated.
This comes only days after Kurt Pritz who was heading up the new gTLD program resigned from ICANN due to a still undisclosed conflict of interest.

ICANN Needs To Come Clean On Kurt Pritz, The Conflict Of Interest & Be Transparent As Promised - In announcing that Kurt Pritz resigned from ICANN today due to a “recently identified conflict of interest” ICANN didn’t specify what the conflict was.
Apparently Kevin Murphy of Domainincite.com, reached out to Mr. Pritz who declined to comment and referred him back to ICANN.
This is not acceptable.
Kurt Pritz was not just ICANN’s Chief Strategy Officer, but for years has been the point man for the new gTLD program.
He is one of the highest paid employees of ICANN.

MyICANN is a large step brazen for clarity during ICANN -
System notifies users about new content on ICANN.org.
ICANN launched a beta of MyICANN during last month’s meeting in Toronto.
The site, hosted at MyICANN.org, provides notifications about new documents published to ICANN’s web site.
It sounds simple and it is. It also only alerts you to documents that have been published, and these same documents have always been published to the site.
Despite this, I believe MyICANN is a huge boost for transparency at ICANN.

ICANN Pays Over $1.5 Million For Director’s Travel & Compensation -
ICANN released today the list of compensation and travel expense paid to or on behalf of Directors of ICANN for the fiscal year ending June 2012.
“This table represents reimbursements and compensation paid directly to Board Members, payments made to third party vendors such as hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies on behalf of Board Members as well as a total of the three amounts.”

Registrars Come Out Against Additional Rights Protections Policy Changes For New gTLD’s - In a letter sent by the Registrar Stakeholder Group to ICANN, today, the group has come out against making any additional changes to the Rights Protection Mechanisms (RPM) for trademark holders in the new gTLD’s.

Two prior TLD applicants sue over specific top level domains.
As plans for a 2013 rollout of new top level domains marches forward, two companies have sued ICANN to stop it from issuing certain top level domain names.
Both lawsuits come courtesy of companies that applied in the “proof of concept” round back in 2000.

If you have been following the new gTLD process then you know that ICANN has been trying to figure out a “fair” way to determine which new gTLD applications would be processed and how new gTLD’s would be delegated.

EU organisation calls due Whois changes “unlawful” -
EU data protection group says law enforcement’s wish list would be unlawful in European Union.
In May I wrote about some of the requests law enforcement agencies were making for the new ICANN registrar accreditation agreement. Some of the requests included verifying phone numbers, annual whois updates, and retaining IP addresses.

ICANN Publishes Schedule For ICANN 45 Toronto Meeting - ICANN has just published the full schedule for its Meeting in Toronto and as usual its jammed packed with sessions and meetings many going on at the same time in different rooms.
