1st Private Auction May Be Complete As Donuts Withdraws Its 1st New gTLD Application: .Vote - Donuts has withdrawn its 1st new gTLD of the 307 applications it filed with ICANN.
This certainly could be the result of a private auction which are underway this week.
There is only one other applicant for the new gTLD .Vote and that company application, under the name of Monolith Registry LLC was filed by Afilias which operates the .info TLD.
Donuts application which is now withdrawn is under the corporate name Double Falls, LLC which had a prioritization number of 663.

ICANN hires new COO, moves Atallah -
ICANN shakes up leadership positions.
ICANN has moved chief operating officer Akram Atallah to a new role and hired a replacement from outside the organization.
Atallah has been named president of the Generic Domains Division. This new group will focus on generic domain operations, domain name industry engagement and web services for the community.

ICANN: Trademark Clearing House Update - ICANN during its Webinar today gave some updated data on the Trademark Clearing House (TMCH)
Today 636 trademark holders have filed marks with the TMCH.
A total of 3,027 trademark records have been filed of which 1,380 have been verified.
There are another 1,132 in the process of being verified.
503 have been determined by the TMCH to have been submitted incorrectly and 12 have been determined to be invalid.
There will be a Webinar held on June 19th at 7pm PST which will be dedicated to the TMCH.

1st New gTLD’s Could Be Delegated As Soon As Aug 28th w/ Sunrise Ending Oct 27th - As part of its Webinar today ICANN laid out a “best case scenario” for when the first new gTLD’s might roll out.
According to a time line laid out by ICANN the first new gTLD could be delegated to the root by as early as August 28, 2013 in which event the Sunrise notice for trademark and other rights holders for the new gTLD could start the following day August 29th.

ICANN New gTLD Contention Auctions To Start In October - During a Webinar today, ICANN announced it is intending to hold the first round of the ICANN Last Resort auction starting in October for those Contention sets which DO NOT include community applications.
Auctions are also not expected for strings that have outstanding objections in the first group of strings.
Under the ICANN Guidebook, Last resort auctions are to be held in groups at set times. So the October auctions will be the first set not the only or the last set.

Private New gTLD Auctions Are Underway - According to ApplicantAuction.com the first private auction for new gTLD strings are underway.
Although other than .Club which publicly announced it would be participating in the auction which started today, there hasn’t been any public announcement on how many other auctions are going on or what the string are.

ICANN Orders Transfer Of Domains At 4 De-Accredited Registrars To Astutium -
ICANN has authorized the bulk transfer of gTLD domain names from four registrars, three are due to the de-accreditation of the registrars;
C I Host, Inc., Central Registrar, Inc. DBA Domainmonger.com, Power Brand Center Corp.
and one transfer was ordered due to the termination of its Registrar Accreditation Agreement of Dotted Ventures, Inc.
All of the domains from all four domain name registrars were transferred to Astutium Limited which is headquartered out of London.

ICANN Appoints First Two New gTLD Data Escrow Agents - ICANN announced today that it has selected the first two new gTLD Data escrow agents.
All new gTLD registry operators will be required to regularly deposit a backup copy of their TLD registration data through one of the approved data escrow service providers.
The data held in escrow may be released to ICANN under certain circumstances in order to preserve the stability of the TLD in case of an emergency.

One application .Pay did not pass IE but was made eligible for Extended Evaluation, that applicant was made by DOTPAY SA, whose contact is listed as Ms. Liz Williams from Sedari.com.

ICANN Orders Further Study On Dotless Domains - ICANN announced last night they were authorizing further study into dotless domains.
Google recently announced that they were changing their application for .Search to an open rather than closed registry and they want to operate the registry as a Dotless Domains.

Applicants flood ICANN with responses to GAC advice on new top level domains.
ICANN has published applicant responses to the Governmental Advisory Committees “Advice” on new top level domains.
722 responses were filed in total.
Many applicants submitted the same comment on each TLD they believed was affected by the advice.

ICANN Approves The Arab Center for Dispute Resolution (ACDR) As A UDRP Provider - The ICANN Board approved the Arab Center for Dispute Resolution (ACDR) as an UDRP provider.
The approval of ACDR as the first UDRP provider located in the Middle East “enhances ICANN‘s accountability to the Internet community as a whole, enhancing choice for UDRP complainants”.
ICANN acknowledged that comments were submitted suggesting that “ICANN develop contracts with each of its UDRP providers as a means to require uniformity among providers. ”

Verisign questions ICANN’s minute posting policies -
Company suggests ICANN is only posting letters that “will advance its positions”.
Verisign has sent a letter to ICANN questioning why it isn’t publishing certain correspondence on the ICANN.org web site.
ICANN has a section on its web site where it publishes many letters it receives and sends.

We know that there were 1931 applications submitted for 1,409 strings.
So we know that all the non-winning applications in strings with more than one application will be withdrawn accounting for 522 of the 646 applications.

The 2014 revised budget has $81,115,000 in revenue coming in from registries and registrars from incumbent TLD’s but only $7,043,000 in revenue coming in from new gTLD’s.

Non-profit plans to continue hiring in all departments.
ICANN expects to end FY 2013 this June with nearly 50% more employees than it began the year with.
That’s according to the non-profit’s FY 2014 draft operating plan, which shows an expected 233 employees by the end of June. It ended June 2012 with 158 employees. That’s nearly 50% growth in just one year.
