Brandmarking: December 12, 2013 • Volume 2, Number 5 - PAGING MR. CHARBUCKS... Someone once said that the American legal system guarantees every corporation its decade in court. That came true with a vengeance for two corporations whose 12-year-long battle recently (and perhaps mercifully) came to an end when an appellate court ruled for the third time that the mark MR. CHARBUCKS for coffee did not violate the famous STARBUCKS trademark. In 1997, a small New Hampshire coffee company called Black Bear Micro Roastery released a blend that it called ... read more ...

Gambling on gTLDs - During some free time at the TRAFFIC conference last June in Las Vegas, I won a bit of cash at the Bellagio playing blackjack. A few hours before my flight took off, I played blackjack again at Aria, and I went on a nice run. I walked away after winning a big hand, and the entire trip was financed by my blackjack winnings. I enjoy playing blackjack, and this was one of the few times I left ahead. Although I think it will be difficult to pick out the winners when it comes to new gTLDs, I ... read more ...

ICANN 48 in Buenos Aires: What Happened and What’s Next? - Last month, some of my colleagues at MarkMonitor and I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina for ICANN 48.
