A New Domain Name Dispute Alternative: The Uniform Rapid Suspension … - The Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) was created as part of ICANN’s new gTLD program. A gTLD (generic top-level domain) is the “suffix” at the end of a domain name, most commonly .com, .org, .info, .biz and .us. Prior to the new gTLD program there were 23 gTLDs in operation.  The new gTLD program is expected to result in the launch of approximately 700 additional gTLDs. Jeannie McPherson - The Real Facts About New gTLDs Many with financial interests in new gTLDs, such as Donuts, have painted a rosy picture of how new gTLDs create greater availability of meaningful domain name options that the global masses have been waiting for. Their message seems to be: FINALLY, there is an alternative to .com in new domain extensions like .guru, .photography, .blackfriday and .tips. But, the reality is that we have always had options other than .com to choose from when registering a domain ... read more ...

ICANN Denies Allegation That New gTLD Have Widespread Phishing … - According to a company blog post out today, by brand protection company CSC, citing Amy Mushahwar, counsel and Chief Information Security Officer at Washington, D.C. law firm ZwillGen PLLC, says: “New domains (new gTLD’s) are being registered as phishing sites and for drive-by downloads of malware.” “Nefarious uses have been very widespread. It’s incumbent upon ICANN to clean up the house for the domains that it currently has before it floods the market with new domains.” She goes on ... read more ...

Guess I Was Wrong There Is A Lot Of Cybersquatting Going On In The New … - Well it seems as the trademark lobby predicted there isa lot of cybersquatting going on in the new gTLD space, a lot more than I thought we would ever see. I was one who thought there would be a negligible amount of trademark infringing domain names registered in the new gTLD space due to the high cost of registration and the small probability of any type in traffic. However just looking at the most recent 400 UDRP/URS cases filed or decided, 69 concerned new gTLD’s domain names (multiple domains ... read more ...

ICANN gears up for second round of gTLD applications even as first round still … - The most significant development in the Internet space in recent years is the ongoing generic top-level domain (gTLD) expansion. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) embarked on an aggressive plan to expand the Internet from just 23 gTLDs to more than a thousand gTLDs, culminating in an application process in 2012 that allowed any organization with ... read more ...

Early Data Suggests New gTLDs Perform Well in Search Environment - Internet addresses registered in new gTLDs are holding their own against — and in some cases outperforming — comparable addresses registered in legacy domains like .COM, according to new data that provides the best window yet into the operational functionality of new gTLD addresses. A question on everyone's mind in the run up to new gTLDs was: how would new domains perform in the wild against legacy domains on the key criteria of search?
