Google may still get to own the .search generic top-level domain (gTLD), but it won’t get to operate it as a dotless domain.
ICANN ruled this week that dotless domains are prohibited, citing “the current security and stability risks” that have been identified in previous studies of dotless domains. The decision affirms recommendations made earlier by an ICANN security committee.

Tucows: Sold .Marketing & .Media New gTLD Applications For “A Substantial Sum” -
In its earnings call today Tucows.com (TCX) said that they sold two of their new gTLD applications for a “Substantial Sum” that will be reflected in its YummyNames.com subsidiary revenue in the third quarter of 2013.
Tucows.com which was one of the applicants for .Media and .Marketing but withdrew their application for both, and combined with Unregistry’s withdrawn for the same two strings, it left Donuts as the sole applicant for .Media and .Marketing.

The second Legal Right Objection been upheld by a three member WIPO panel this time by The DirecTV Group Inc. against its competitor Dish DBS The applied-for gTLD string .Direct.
