Aerospace meets cyberspace: aviation and the new gTLDs - One of the most interesting aspects of working in IP is seeing the very practical impact of the work we do. It’s most obvious in brand disputes, where one brand might have to stop a particular advertising campaign, or rebrand completely, but it’s equally present in the aviation sector. I was a regular commuter between London and New York for several years but before that I had acted on a patent dispute involving the inner workings of power units in commercial airliners: there ... read more ...

With 565 Domains Taken In Sunrise & EAP .Services Appears To Be A Winner - The new gTLD .Services launches tomorrow. Taking into account all Sunrise applications and Early Access Program Registrations, there are 565 domain names registered. We have chatted about the last few weeks that no new gTLD produced any big 1st day registration numbers,  but based on the activity I’m seeing in the Zone file it looks like .Services will be pretty successful. Consider that last weeks total after the 1st day of general availability which also included Sunrise and Early Access/Landrush ... read more ...

Have Trademark Holders Given Up On The URS? Last 17 Disputes Filed, 15 … - Have trademark holders given up on the Uniform Resolution Service? The URS is something that trademark holders and their representative pushed for at ICANN for years. A cheap, quick take down on obviously trademark infringing new gTLD domain registrations. Although the URS is exactly that a much cheaper and quicker process than a UDRP, if a trademark holder wins a URS the domain registration is simply suspended for the term of the registration and becomes available for re-registration once it drops. Since ... read more ...
