I read with interest the recent blog written by Theresa Swinehart a Sr. Advisor to the President on Strategy. She wrote: "The most critical element of this [ICANN Transition] process is trust and alignment. Montreal Looks Like The Next City That Wants To Apply For Its Own New gTLD … - According to the MontrealGazette.com, the city of Montreal seems to be the next city expressing Interest in applying for its own new gTLD, of .MTL
“It’s an interesting possibility for Montreal,” said city councillor Harout Chitilian, the vice chairperson of the city executive committee.
“We have to be creative to promote Montreal, and it’s a tool that we’ll take a serious look at.”
But that gives Montreal time to plan a .mtl initiative, if and when an opportunity comes around again.

.Mail Gets Added To .Home and .Corp As Strings Killed Off By Collision - According to a resolution of the ICANN Board the .Mail has joined .Home and .Corp as extension that will not be delegated as part of the collision report.
.Mail was basically killed off as part of the “ICANN NAME COLLISION OCCURRENCE MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK” which is putting into place a plan which will start the process of freeing up domain names on the Collision list:

MIAMI — ICM Registry, the operator of .xxx, .adult and .porn, has won the right to operate the .sex gTLD.
Internet Marketing Solutions Ltd., a competing applicant for .sex, has withdrawn its application, leaving ICM Registry's bid as the sole applicant for .sex.
Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry, told XBIZ that his company acquired the rights to .sex in a transaction for the gTLD.
