Two three-applicant contention sets are resolved.
The .green and .wedding new top level domain name contention sets have been resolved in private auctions.
It’s unclear which company won the .green auction as applications have not yet been withdrawn. However, Top Level Domain Holdings (Minds + Machines) announced today it was on the losing end of that auction.

.Green draws are better overall, but that doesn’t mean it will come to market first.
When ICANN planned “digital archery” to determine the order in which it would review top level domain applications, there was a benefit to applying for a domain other people were applying for: all applications would be moved up in the queue to the top spot in the contention set.

The green domain space gets crowded.
Competition to run the top level domain .green is heating up (and heating up is not a word revered by the green community).
Four companies have submitted applications to ICANN to run the domain name: DotGreen Community, Inc., Demand Media, Top Level Domain Holdings, and Afilias.

TLDH hedges its bets with .green bid.
On May 7 I tweeted:
The answer is “yes”.
Top Level Domain Holdings, one of the companies embroiled in a battle over .eco, has applied for .green. It could merely be a calculated bet by TLDH given the potential for a hold up on .eco. .Eco has long been contested, has a trademark fight, and is now in court.

When I wrote my tongue-in-cheek guide on how to my .Eco a success, I joked:
Make sure the other side doesn’t decide to just get .green instead. You need to get their heads stuck on .eco. If they opt for .green, you could have long term competition. And that’s not what this is about; you need to get a monopoly TLD.
