Add ABC.cm to a list of Google Names - Looking at whois records for other cctlds on the heels of the .mx purchase, it looks like ABC.cm changed hands on 8/7. The domain looked to have been owned by a Chinese registrant.
Of course .cm has been in the news before, Kevin Ham was once profiled in a Business 2.0 article that is published on CNN. Maybe Disney will care about this name if Google is indeed the buyer. The domain was dropped and registered in 2014 so a quick flip.
From the article:
And what few people know is that he’s also the ... read more ...

How most is a .cm domain value in 2013? -
We’ll find out in an auction that ends today.
.Cm, the country code for Cameroon, has been on an interesting ride.
It previously struck a deal with Kevin Ham to wildcard the DNS and monetize the traffic. Then it sold .cm domains to all comers, brazenly marketing the domain as a typo of .com.
That “relaunch”, if you will, was an unmitigated disaster. Bidders on domains that appeared to sell for a lot backed out, and the registry lost a bunch of billing files.

2009 Domain Dunce Award: .CM Launch -
A controversial “relaunch” goes awry.
.CM, the country code top level domain name for The Republic of Cameroon, has a storied history amongst domainers. Kevin Ham struck a deal to wildcard the domain name, sending lots of typo traffic of .com domain names his way. Ham, including his deal with Cameroon, was the subject of a cover story in the late Business 2.0 magazine.
This year Cameroon decided to open up .cm and offer it to individual registrants, and opted ... read more ...

More Problems for .CM Domain as Registry Loses Files -
.Cm domain name registry NETCOM loses financial files.
The “relaunch” of Cameroon’s .cm domain name stuttered out of the gate after many technical difficulties. Apparently those problems continue, and it highlights one of the risks of buying certain country code domain names.
.Cm registry NETCOM has emailed its registrars informing them of data loss in its accounting systems, and admitting it didn’t have a data backup plan in place:
Dear Registrars,

Why Is Traffic From a .Com Typo OK, But Traffic From a .CM Is Not? - As you know, over the last few weeks, I have been reporting on the rollout of the .CM ccTLD, and not a post goes by, where I haven’t gotten at least one, and usually several comments from domainers, to the effect that, all that the .cm extension is for, is to serve as a typo of a .com, and its only value is from misdirected traffic.
So?
For years I have seen .com typos and misspells, sell for thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars and not once did I hear anyone comment negatively ... read more ...

A brief look at domain name news.
.cm, .info, and other stories worth reading.
Is the .cm landrush a blight on domainers? Chad Kettner thinks so. I tend to agree. Rightly or wrongly, it’s easy for the media to point to major domain name companies supporting the .cm landrush and saying “see, they’re all cybersquatters”. I also question the amount of .cm typo traffic. Personally, I think .co is much more common. You also wonder if parking ad feed providers ... read more ...
