PCWorld Covers DomainFest Live Domain Auction: “The New Way To Make Fast Money Is To Invest In Domain Names” - A new article from PCWorld.com talks about domain names in general and the Live DomainFest domain Auction today in particular. “Forget real estate, the stock market or Internet startups, the new way to make fast money is to invest in domain names, argues a domain name brokerage that will auction off a passel of domain names on Wednesday in New York.” “Domains, really, are almost like commercial real estate. They’re investments on their own,” Kupietzky said. He called them “Internet ... read more ...

Namejet.com Allowing BackOrders & Bidding On NameJet.Me - We often criticize the drop services for allowing bidding on well know famous trademarked domain names. Today’s I found that NameJet.com is taking backorders on a domain which is pretty amazing, and kind of amusing. NameJet.com is allowing people to backorder, the soon to be dropped domain, NameJet.Me. If Namejet.com is successful in acquiring the dropped domain it will go to auction where it will sell to the high bidder. Interesting, yet quite embarrassing for the service don’t you think? What’s The Most Famous Domain You Used To Own? - Over the years many of us have sold hundreds even thousands of domain names, some of which have went on to become major or quite famous sites. The question for a sleep Saturday morning in the dead of August is which domain did you used to own which has become a major or famous site? This is not what is your best or highest sale, dollar figures are irreverent. Its what domain did you used to own that is now a major or famous site. For myself that’s an easy one, MyFlorida.com. It’s now the “Official ... read more ...

250K Monthly Visitors For Just over $1K On Godaddy.com? - I notice the auction for the expired domain, challengesworld.com at Godaddy.com According to Godaddy.com the domain receives around 250,000 visits  a month. Wow Compete.com is only showing a high of 13K visitors and only a little over 3K for last month Alexa.com however shows the domain having a 3 month average ranking of 8,000. Most of the traffic appears to be non-US based but for a current high bid of just over $1K its an interesting domain. Google+Michael Berkens ... read more ...

The Trademark Typo Linkdin.com Sells For 22K during SnapNames.com - The trademark typo domain, Linkdin.com just sold on SnapNames.com today for $22,000. $22K There were 50 people in the auction but there were 10 active bidders (bidders that put in a bid above the minimum). Its amazing in this day and age there are so many people willing to pay this kind of money for a domain that would be taken in a UDRP if a complaint is filed. Yes I know the domain has traffic,  but its a bang on typo trademark domain with no other conceivable meaning. No Bueno. Google+Michael ... read more ...

If A .US Domain At Best Is Only Worth 1% of a .Com and 25% Of A .CA Why Bother? - I’m sure this will piss off a whole group of folks who invest in .US domains, but looking through the Snapnames.com .US domain auction closing tomorrow , July 8th at 3:15pm, I couldn’t help but notice that Slots.Us is at auction with a reserve of $58,830 or roughly 1% of what the .com just sold for, or just over 25% of what Slots.ca just sold for. Candy.US is another domain for sale in this auction with a reserve price of just over $14K. We all know the Domain King sold Candy.com for $3M, making ... read more ...

A Bang On Trademarked Term Adderall Sells For $4,800 on NameJet.com - You wouldn’t have to go far to find someone who has heard of the Attention Deficit Disorder drug Adderall, usually prescribed for children, but this domain just sold on NameJet.com yesterday for $4,800. Of course the manufacturer of the drug has a trademark registered on the product. Moreover, certainly over the last year or two, no online “business” has been under attack more than the online pharmacy’s, making this domain a potential double whammy in liability. I wouldn’t touch it. I other ... read more ...

Sedo.com’s Contract Protects Sedo, But Not Sellers Or Buyers - Almost 2 months ago I won an auction at Sedo for TrademarkLawyer.com for just under $10K.  This was one of 7 legal domains one seller put up for auction.  The total winning bids for the 7 domains totaled almost $200K.  (You can read the entire story here). Shortly after the auction ended the Seller notified Sedo that he was not going to transfer the domains.  After a cure period of 30 days Sedo declared the Seller in Default. Since the Seller lives in the Tampa Bay area, I asked my long time ... read more ...

Our Picks From The SnapNames Monthly Showcase Auction Ending Tuesday - The SnapNames.com monthly showcase auction for June closes tomorrow Tuesday June 15th at 3:15PM EST in accordance with Snaps normal closing procedures. The auction for June features “Telecom, Mobile and Tech” domains. We have gone through the few hundred domains in this auction and could only find a few “interesting” domains.
