VeriSign Proposes Domain Name Exchange Service -
New program would let registrars trade-in domains they no longer want.
VeriSign has filed papers with ICANN proposing a “Domain Name Exchange” that would let .net domain name owners trade in their domains for others. The stated purpose of the exchange is to allow service providers that offer packages for less than a year to change in domains when customers are no longer using them:
Today when a registrant terminates a package of services from a registrar after, ... read more ...

CamRoulette.com: Understanding Domain Sales Regret -
A hefty case of domain sales regret — and what you can learn from it.
Most of us who have been around the domain name world for any length of time have regretted a sale we’ve made. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but then we see the buyer flip the domain name for much more.
One domainer got an early lesson of sales regret. He sold CamRoulette.com to Adam Strong for $1,400, only to see Strong turn around and sell the domain for $150,000 shortly thereafter.

8 Clues a Domain Name is Stolen -
8 warning signs a domain name is stolen.
Over the past few days we’ve learned about a number of domain name thefts, including YH.com and VL.com.
People typically steal domains with the hopes of selling them before word gets out that the domain is stolen. Here are 8 clues a domain name you’re thinking about buying is stolen. Just because one of these is true doesn’t mean a domain is stolen; but you should use caution.
1. Person claims they must sell the domain ... read more ...
Reverse Domain Name Hijacking Illustration Contest -
Show off your illustration skills.
What image best conveys reverse domain name hijacking? Domain Name Wire would like your help to create it.
When we cover cases of UDRP reverse domain name hijacking, the article will occasionally include a photo. Here’s the one we included last time (purchased from iStockPhoto):
But I’d like something better, and that’s why I’m calling on all graphic artists to pitch in. Create your own graphic that conveys reverse domain ... read more ...

So What Happened To Frank Schilling’s .TV Domains? He Doesn’t Own Them, Enom Does. - Right after the .TV relaunch on March 18th several domain blogs pointed out that Frank Schilling invested in the new extension, one even listing all of the .TV domains he acquired.
And why not?
Frank has long been regarded to be the most successful domain investor on the planet.
So when blogs, even forums, took note that Frank bought into the .TV market they took it as a positive sign for .TV domains in general.
As noted by ibroker.com some of the domain Frank bought in the .TV relaunch included:
Cayman.TV
Climbing.tv
Dumb.tv
Bird.tv
Birthday.tv
Valentine.tv
Bunny.tv
Author.tv
Franks.tv

Prediction of First iPad Class Action Lawsuits -
Here comes the iPad. Here come the lawsuits.
Today is the day 300,000 Apple fan boys have been waiting for: the launch of the iPad. As with any Apple product launch, it will only be a matter of months before the class action lawyers jump in to sue Apple for product problems. Here are my predictions for two lawsuits.
Repeated typing on the iPad hurts your hands.
Houston class action lawyer Bubba McCoy has filed a lawsuit against Apple on behalf of part-time blogger ... read more ...
VL.com Domain Name Stolen, Too. Here’s a Inside Story. -
Beware: more stolen domain names.
Yesterday I reported about the theft of YH.com. It turns out another valuable domain, VL.com, was also recently stolen. In this case it appears the weak link was web hosting company Dreamhost. That’s also the host in the YH.com case, although the actual weak link in that case hasn’t been determined.
It wasn’t Dreamhost’s automated systems that are to blame. It was a human mess up, just like when Baidu’s DNS was hijacked. ... read more ...
The .TV Relaunch -
As you must already be aware from the recent reports, Enom and Verisign have decided to remove premium annual renewal fees on unregistered domains which they had held back for the last ten years and make them available to investors for a flat one time fee and standard renewal thereafter.
They re-classified a lot of domains previously considered premium as standard and released them without warning a few hours before any official announcement was released. There was some buzz so those with ... read more ...

No .XXX!! Shouts The Adult Industry Too - My friend Andrew just wrote a post on DomainNameWire.com on the outcry from religious groups and their members against the .XXX extension.
The comment period on the .XXX extension is as Andrew noted getting a lot of comments, many from religious groups and their members against the .XXX extension but the other group also voicing opposition, once again to .XXX, is the adult industry.
Mike South, legendary porn producer, writes on his blog at MikeSouth.com:

After Last Nights Post, Name.com Takes Down All .TV Pricing For Existing Premium Domains - Our post of last night apparently caused a stir in .TV land.
Tonight, Name.com has pulled all of the pricing it was showing for .TV premium domains if they were to drop.
We’re are not sure if Enom the registrar or VeriSign the owner of the .TV registry ordered or pressured name.com to block this info, but the info is gone.
We showed you last night a screen shot of the what the “new” price for 2 currently owned .TV premium domains would be, if they were dropped by the current owner.

Warning: YH.com Domain Name Stolen -
Valuable two letter domain name YH.com has been stolen.
The domain name YH.com has been hijacked from its owner and the thief is trying to sell it.
The domain’s owner is Jaynell Hogan, who was properly identified in the whois database until March 26, when the domain name was suddenly transferred from Go Daddy to DOMENESHOP AS. The whois record changed to “Domain Administrator”. The thief then created a Gmail address using Hogan’s name, which is currently ... read more ...
Hallmark Cashes in with Easter.com, Frank Schilling for GoodFriday.com -
Hallmark sees holiday traffic with generic type-in traffic. Big domainers get in on the action, too.
Talk about a good use of a fantastic generic domain name — Hallmark owns Easter.com, and is cashing in thanks to direct navigation traffic.
A visit to Easter.com forwards to Hallmark’s web site, where you’ll find a special section dedicated to Easter. Not only does owning this great domain result in more traffic for Hallmark, but it keeps it away from competitors. ... read more ...
“No Porn!” Shout Families to ICANN -
Anti-porn group mobilized against .xxx.
If ICANN is supposed to include the thoughts of the greater internet community, it is certainly getting its wish.

Has Anyone Really Thought Through Uniform Rapid Suspension? -
URS lacks foresight.
Yesterday the comment period for Uniform Rapid Suspension closed at ICANN. URS is a cheaper and (supposedly) faster version of UDRP, with a few twists.
But given all of the holes in URS, I have to wonder if anyone has really thought this idea through. Yes, people that worked on URS will say they have, but many of them have ulterior motives.
I found National Arbitration Forum’s comments on URS particularly interesting, since it looked at ... read more ...

How Can ENOM Charge Me $3K A Year For A “Premium” .TV That Would Sell For A $435 One Time Payment? - Out of the “landrush” of .TV domains a couple of weeks ago one of the biggest remaining issue is the disparity of those “premium” .TV domains registered before Enom lost its exclusive rights with Verisign, the .TV registry, to sell .TV domains, compared to all those domains sold after March 18, 2010.
I have one such of these domains, Great.TV
I have had that domain for several years paying $3K PER year for the rights to own the domain.
A quick e-mail to Enom confirmed what others were already ... read more ...
Sedo by a Numbers: Platform Tops 1 Million Users -
Sedo hits milestone, but revenue weak in 2009.
Sedo’s parent company AdLink (soon to be Sedo Holding) has released final results for 2009. Here are the highlights for the Sedo division:
Revenue: 46.6M EUR. This is down 14.8% from 54.7M EUR in 2008. You can blame the falling domain name parking and soft sales market for the dip.
Number of Registered Users: Congratulations are in order for Sedo, which topped 1,000,000 registered users by the end of the year.
