Some adult operators want to boycott .xxx. Yeah, good luck with that.
I understand why some adult web site owners are upset about .xxx.
But trying to boycott the new top level domain name is a ridiculous idea.
Before its rally at the ICANN meeting in San Francisco the Free Speech Coalition said it would try to organize a boycott should .xxx pass. At the time I wrote:

The Free Speech Coalition Launches “Just Say No To .XXX” Boycott Campaign; Why It Won’t Work - According to AVN.com, The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) announced yesterday that it is launching an anti—.XXX campaign urging adult online businesses not to register into any .XXX sTLD.

CNBC’s “Squawk On The Street” Covers New gTLD’s & .XXX Staring The Heads Of Central Nic & CADNA: “Has The Internet Out Grown .Com?” - CNBC Had a 5 minutes + segment on Squawk On The Street” on the new gTLD program and .XXX on Tuesday entitled “Has the Internet outgrown .Com”

.XXX Pre-Reservations Breaks The 300,000 Mark Adding 90,000 in Since Approval - According to ICM Registry site there are now over 300,000 pre-reservations for a .XXX domain.
Prior to ICANN’s Approval of the .XXX extension on Friday which came about around 3pm EST, there were only 211,000 pre-reservations so that is 90,000 pre-reservations in less than 3 days since approval.
Of course a pre-reservation does not require any payment but its a indication there is a lot interest in this extension.

Quick Poll: How Many .XXX Registrations Will There Be 1 Year After Launch? - With ICANN approving the .XXX extension yesterday the question now becomes how successful will it be?
There are currently 240,000 pre-reservation according to ICM’s site although there is no cost to pre-register a domain.
Wholesale pricing will be $60 with retail prices expected to be $70 and up per domain per year.
The last extension to roll out was .Co which at least report had over 600,000 registration but that was before the Super Bowl ad.

How Could The CEO Of ICANN Not Vote On .XXX? - Yesterday at the ICANN board meeting when the .XXX extension was approved by a 9-3 vote, 4 Board members abstained from voting including the CEO of ICANN Rod Beckstrom.
While one vote either for or against the .XXX extension wouldn’t have changed the outcome, the point of the matter is how can the head of an organization pass on voting on what is probably the most important vote ICANN has taken during the time he has led the organization?

ICM: “.XXX Domain Names Will Only Be Available To The Adult Entertainment Industry” - In a press release by the ICM Registry just hours after winning ICANN’s approval to run the .XXX registry, some clarification has come to light which will answer some questions people have posted already on TheDomains.com about how the registry will work.

BREAKING NEWS: After 7 Years & Over $12 Million Dollars, ICM Gets The .XXX Extension - Today at the ICANN meeting in San Francisco, the ICANN Board voted 9-3, with 4 board members absenting, to approve ICM application to run the .XXX registry.
There was substantial opposition to .XXX on the Board itself and the resolution and the objections some of which were quite lengthy, can be found below.

.SX To Compete With .XXX As THE Adult Extension? - Domainincite.com reported today that OpenRegistry.com won the contract to operate the back end services for the .SX registry, the cc-TLD newly assigned to Sint Maarten (the Dutch Side).
According to OpenRegistry.com, the plan for the extension may well be to compete with the the proposed .XXX extension in the adult space.

In A Video Interview ICANN’s CEO & Chairman Says .XXX Extension Approval “Is Little More Than A Formality - ICANN Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush and CEO Rod Beckstrom indicated in a video tapped interview today ICANN will proceed with the registry contract over the GAC’s objections, if necessary

ICM Registry Issues Press Release On ICANN Board Decision - The ICM Registry who is seeking the the .XXX extension just issued a press release to respond to the decision of the ICANN board this morning in which they said the “intend” to enter into a contract with ICM to run the registry, but just not yet

Why Shouldn’t Godaddy Be Barred From Applying For A New gTLD Under The Guidebook Based On Standard Tactics - As we discussed in a post today, according to the ICANN Guidebook v5 published yesterday, any person with 3 UDRP loses will be disqualified from owing a new gTLD registry or being an officer or director of any such entity.

Free Speech Coalition: .XXX Threatens The Stability & Security Of The Internet - According to AVN.com, The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) submitted a letter to ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) yesterday over the proposed approval of .XXX saying that:

.XXX Registry Buys DotXXX.Com & Goes With “Lets Be Adult About It” As It Slogan - The ICM registry has just acquired the domain name DotXXX.com within the last week and it now redirects to their official site ICMRegistry.com
The ICM registry paid $25,000 for the domain that was formerly owned by someone in Korea.
The domain will be used in all future advertising for the registry.
The registry which has already hired the global advertising and marketing firm of MC Saatchi to handle it’s account, have come up with their slogan which will be used in all future advertising.

.XXX Pushed Off Until Colombia ICANN Meeting In December - The ICANN board had a meeting yesterday and the question of the day was would ICANN grant final approval and sign the contract with .XXX.
The answer is no.
In a resolution that should be posted on its site today, ICANN resolved to send the matter back to the Governmental Advisory Committee for its opinion on the contract based ona few points that will be detailed in the resolution.

.XXX Lawley & Godaddy’s Parsons On Fox Business Channel Tonight As Domains Take The Spotlight - I learned that both Stuart Lawley from the ICM Registry, who got tentative approval for .XXX last week and none other than Bob Parsons from Godaddy.com will be on the same program tonight on the Fox Business Channel at 8PM EST.
They both will appearing separately on a new program called “Money Rocks”
