DNA Auction Plan to Reinvest Money Into Industry -
Love them or hate them, auctions are an unavoidable reality of the new Top-Level Domain (TLD) Program.
By their very nature, they create winners and losers. All that is in doubt is where the money goes — to the losing parties under a private auction model or to ICANN under their auction of last resort.
There are pros and cons for both models. But what if there was another way?
Instead of the two current options, what if the proceeds from auctions could be reinvested into the wider domain ... read more ...

As we previously reported to you (click here to view April 29, 2013 TLD article), the internet is expanding to include hundreds of new top-level-domains (TLDs) (examples of TLDs as we know them today include .com, .net. and .org – i.e., the term that is to the right of the "dot"). Google Treats New TLDs as gTLDs -
There is a thread in Google Product Forums’ Webmaster Central forum asking about TLDs being treated as generic. Although the question doesn’t specifically appear to be about ICANN’s new gTLD program, it garnered a response from a Google employee who mentioned the new domain extensions.
According to John Mueller, Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google, “we currently treat the new TLDs as gTLDs, even if they sound like they may be region-specific (eg .berlin).” This is interesting to ... read more ...

The Root and the Solution -
The Internet was born in the United States as a project of the US Department of Defense and has always enjoyed a close relationship with its parent country. But recently, the United States has begun handing over one of the key functions of Internet governance — control of the Internet’s central directory — to an international body. This shift may seem just. After all, the Internet is a global piece of infrastructure. However, this devolution of control could have unsavory ramifications for ... read more ...
