Rightside manages 33 (and is in the running to manage several additional) new gTLD extensions, and the company operates popular domain registrars, Enom and Name.com. Why the dot-vegas launch is a ridiculous racket - Now that the inane hype and local media boosterism for the new “dot-vegas” top level domain name is beginning to subside, maybe someone with some sense will listen to the truth: It’s a racket, a waste of money and a doomed concept that someday will make a mockery out of all those civic leaders posing around that goofy .VEGAS sign. Seriously. It’s going to make the Las Vegas Monorail seem like a good idea. For the uninitiated, all Internet addresses have what are called “top level domains,” ... read more ...

Recently introduced TLDs create new opportunities for criminals -
Earlier this year, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) released over 300 top-level domains (TLDs), and more are coming. The TLDs are supposed to be a way to focus the Internet. In reality, they've become a boon for registrars who use them as an up sell when someone purchases a domain. Moreover, they've become a goldmine for criminals, who can often bypass network defenses guarding against phishing and CC communications by using a domain that's outside of the norm.According ... read more ...

While the term “top-level domain” (TLD) may not be familiar to the average web surfer, it is a core part of the domain name system (DNS) that the internet ... read more ...
