DNA Auction Plan to Reinvest Money Into Industry
Love them or hate them, auctions are an unavoidable reality of the new Top-Level Domain (TLD) Program. By their very nature, they create winners and losers. All that is in doubt is where the money goes -- to the losing parties under a private auction model or to ICANN under their auction of last resort. There are pros and cons for both models. But what if there was another way? more»

May 12: updated status of sunrise periods and trademark claims notification … -
As we previously reported to you (click here to view April 29, 2013 TLD article), the internet is expanding to include hundreds of new top-level-domains (TLDs) (examples of TLDs as we know them today include .com, .net. and .org – i.e., the term that is to the right of the "dot"). While the only certainty at that time was that the launch was inevitable, like it or not, it's finally here (click here to view January 9, 2014 Sunrise article).

New gTLD’s Take 1st Toll On Existing String? .Mobi Falls Below 1 Million … -
According to RegistrarStats.com the Top Level Domain (TLD) .Mobi fell below 1 Million domain name registrations.
.Mobi hit a high of 1.2 Million registrations in January 2014 before the new gTLD were released.
.Mobi increased registration from late 2011, from below 1 Million hitting 1.2 Million on January.
We can’t peg the losses of 200,000 domain registrations since January just to the new gTLD’s, but it certainly could be a factor which is why the headline has a question mark.

Is the Future of .BRAND TLDs to Be Registered Just Like a Domain Name? -
Will .BRAND Top-Level Domains be made available for registration at Registrars like GoDaddy, just like second level domains are? My guess is that it will and here are the reasons why.
Go what?
There is no longer a need to introduce GoDaddy. GoDaddy is just the largest Registrar in the world and has no equivalent. According to nTLDStats.com, it has 24.51% market shares in the new domain names market, with 175,313 new domain names registered out of a total of 715,276, 12 million customers ... read more ...

Still Think .brands Might Be a Waste of Time? Google Doesn’t! -
The new Top-Level Domain (TLD) program was designed from the outset to enhance competition and foster innovation.
It was a great result for the wider industry to see approximately one-third of the applications received by ICANN submitted by some of the world's largest companies seeking to own and operate their own .brand TLD.
Even with organisations such as Apple, Citibank and IBM applying for their respective TLDs, scepticism remained on the potential for .brands to succeed.

The Snapchat of web addresses: Meet the domains that aren’t meant to last -
Your marriage may last forever, but the website you register to announce it to the world won’t. A new top-level domain (TLD)—the last bit of a web address, like the .com in qz.com—is bringing a Snapchat mentality to the fusty world of domain names. By making it very expensive for users to hold on to their websites after a certain period of time, these sites are effectively built to self-destruct—or at least move on.
