Adrian Kinderis: Why Google Will Rank New gTLD’s Higher Than .Com’s - In a blog post today Adrian Kinderis of ARI Registry Services makes the argument that new gTLD’s will  rank higher .com domain names on Google. Perth Based Telco iiNet Going After Its Own gTLD: “”Relatively Cheap Way To Secure A Part Of The Internet”, - A PERTH based Telcom company, iiNet announced plans to apply for the gTLD .iiNet “iiNet’s operations manager Roger Yerramsetti is quoted saying: The $200,000 cost for .iiNet was a ”relatively cheap way to secure a part of the internet” The company apparently has selected ARI Registry Services which according to the articlediscussing the application, charges $50,000 for the application process. Would A New gTLD Operator Have a Marketing Advantage Over .com. .net., org & Others If They Were Offshore? - Wired.com published a story today entitled “Uncle Sam: If It Ends in .Com, It’s .Seizable”. The story goes on to talk about what all of us in the domain industry already know, that if a domain registry is a US corporation, domain names under the extension can be seized by the US government. 100,000 New gTLD by 2020? Demand Media Plans On Investing $5 Million In New gTLD’s - As part of Demand Media’s earning report, it appears Demand Media has plans for applying for a number of new gTLD’s. ICANN: Some New gTLD’s Will Be Approved Late This Year & Be Live In Early 2013 - ICANN has just published an announcement that it expects that some new gTLD’s to be approved late this year and be live in early 2013. ICANN Opens Comment Period To Hear About Defensive New gTLD Extensions - ICANN has just opened a comment period to hear from people and companies concerned about defensive applications for new gTLD’s. “”Public comment is requested as to why there may be a perceived need for defensive new gTLD applications and steps that could be considered to help alleviate this concern.”” The comment period closes  on February 27th. Hawaii Proposes Bill To Force State To Apply For New gTLD’s; 1 Of Which Isn’t Even Allowed - A bill just proposed in the Hawaii state legislature seeks to require the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to make application for the new gTLD’s of .hawaii, .hi, and .aloha. ICANN’s Beckstrom Update On New gTLD Program - I just listened in to a call with the CEO of ICANN Rod Beckstrom, on an update on the new gTLD program  he gave to some bloggers. “For us, No news is good news, things are running smoothly we have not encountered any major technical or service issues.” Beyond that Mr. Beckstrom was unwilling to give any updated numbers in terms of the number of applications submitted or the number of companies that had paid the $5,000 for the spot to file and application.
