So What Does A GAC Early Warning Really Mean & Where Do Applicants Go From Here - Last night we published the list of the 242 new gTLD’s applications that got hit with a GAC early warning.
The GAC is the Governmental Advisory Group to ICANN.
So what is the effect of receiving an GAC early warning and what happens from here, we look to the new gTLD Guidebook for answers:
The GAC Early Warning is a notice only.
It is not a formal objection, nor does it directly lead to a process that can result in rejection of the application.

Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry Launches .blackfriday Website - Frank Schillings new gTLD company, Uniregistry.com just launched a new site promoting its .blackfriday new gTLD application.
Uniregistry is the only company that filed an application to operate the new gTLD of .blackfriday.
.blackfriday did NOT receive a GAC early warning.

GAC Issues 242 Early Warnings To New gTLD’s Applicants - The Government Advisory Council (GAC) to ICANN issued 242 early warnings to new gTLD applicants tonight involving 145 strings.
After a quick review, The government of Australia seems to have issued the most early warnings with Germany and India following.
The United States only issued a few early warnings, but they included Demand Media,Inc (DMD) applications for .Army, .Navy and .Airforce.

CNET: Russian Continuing To Push To Take Over Control Of Domain Naming System From ICANN - According to a story published in Cnet.com last night, according to ” documents leaked on Friday from an upcoming treaty conference, the Russian Federation is calling on the United Nations to take over key aspects of Internet governance, including addressing and naming.

ICANN CEO: Until a initial new gTLD is Delegated, Akram Attalah & we Will Personally Oversee a Whole New gTLD Program - According to a blog post by the CEO of ICANN Fadi Chehadé, he and Akram Attalah will “personally oversee the whole new gTLD program until the 1st new gTLD is delegated.
This comes only days after Kurt Pritz who was heading up the new gTLD program resigned from ICANN due to a still undisclosed conflict of interest.

TLDH: Turning Point Has Been Reached For New gTLD Program & Some Registries Will Be Revenue Producing In 2013 - According to a press release just issued by Top Level Domain Holdings (TLDH) “a turning point has been reached for the timetable for the implementation of the new generic top level domain (“gTLD”) program.” and they expect that certain new registries “are likely to be revenue producing in 2013.”

Registrars Come Out Against Additional Rights Protections Policy Changes For New gTLD’s - In a letter sent by the Registrar Stakeholder Group to ICANN, today, the group has come out against making any additional changes to the Rights Protection Mechanisms (RPM) for trademark holders in the new gTLD’s.

The Future Of Geo Domains: Chicago.com Makes $125K In 1st Year Of Selling SubDomains & Email Addresses - I had a chance to sit down with Josh Metnick who owns Chicago.com and started selling subdomains email addresses ending in Chicago.com.

ICANN On New gTLD’s: “No Contracts Will be Executed or Delegations Made Before a Beijing Meeting” - At the ICANN Meeting today Kurt Pritz who is in charge of the new gTLD program laid out a timeline for the new gTLD program.

ICANN To Hold Lottery To Get New gTLD’s To Market Sooner: Draw To Occur Dec 4-15; Objection Period Extended To Mar 13th -
If you have been following the new gTLD process then you know that ICANN has been trying to figure out a “fair” way to determine which new gTLD applications would be processed and how new gTLD’s would be delegated.

Consumer Watchdog today urged Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D –W.VA) to block attempts by Google and Amazon to acquire the new gTLD’s they applied for through Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
