Bloomberg Asks Online Experts What To Expect From New gTLD’s, ICANN IN 2013 -
New gTLDs will either change the nature of the internet or will go the way of all other gTLDs introduced after .com (when was the last time you bought or went to a .biz domain name?). Pool Shutting Down Registrar Threads: Refocusing From Drop Catching To New gTLD’s - We just got this email from Pool.com this morning:
“The impending launch of new gTLDs has led Pool.com to refocus its business away from an emphasis on the secondary market and to a broader range of on-going services. ”
“As a result, we will be shutting down a number of our registrar threads effective January 10, 2013. ”
“This will have an effect on some of your domains acquired through Pool.com (a list of names is included below)”.

Top Level Domain Holdings: Pleased With ICANN Drawning & Announces Results - In a press release today, The Directors Top Level Domain Holdings (TLDH) the holding company of Minds + Machines “are delighted to announce the results of ICANN’s Prioritization Draw that concluded Monday evening in Los Angeles.”
The directors are pleased that three of TLDH’s five geographic applications were in the top third of the Prioritization Draw.

Google Leads Those Applicants Not Pulling Paid Tickets At 24: Here’s The Full List - After ICANN drew all the tickets that were purchased for the new gTLD prioritization draw last night, ICANN drew the rest of the applications, again those not purchasing the $100 draw ticket.
ICANN previously stated that those not purchasing tickets would be placed at the end of the cue and ICANN did in fact place them after the last paid ticket 1,776 which was .financial.

New gTLD Contention Sets: Winners .Tickets & .Green Losers .Soccer & Everyone Else - I went through the new gTLD contention sets, those new gTLD extensions applied for two or more parties, to figure out based on the draw which ones would be done with initial evaluation first and which ones will go later on in the process.
Looks like the winner is .tickets which has the earliest draw number of 259 and the last number 528, next up seems to be .Green with the earliest draw number of 159 and the last draw number of 859.

ICANN New gTLD Draw Through #150 Most Applied For Strings Get No Love - Through the 1st 150 non-IDN strings in the ICANN Priority Numbers Drawsome of the most applied for new gTLD’s extensions didn’t have one pick.
Unofficially I didn’t hear any applications announced for .home, .music, .Inc, .LLC .Shop and .book, . 6 of the top 8 most applied for new gTLD;s and only one for .App. and .Blog.
Others without any presence in the 1st 150 include what many consider to be the most valuable string, .web

As Soon As The ICANN New gTLD Draw Starts, The Live Feed Goes Out - Almost on Cue as soon as the ICANN Priority Numbers Draw for New gTLD Applications was starting the live Audio/Video stream went out.
When it was last working it looked like less than 300 people were tuned in.
ICANN has already Tweeted that the draw will not start until the audio/video stream is fixed.

If Your In Contention For a New gTLD Your Draw Number Is Only As Good As The Worst Number Picked By A Competing Applicant - As the ICANN draw of December 17th is less than two weeks away, one issue that has been debated on Facebook is the importance of the draw for those new gTLD’s strings in contention.
Today ICANN settled one issue giving IDN applications preference, but not giving preference to any other applicant including Geographic applicants which had lobbied ICANN for priority as well.

ICANN Opens Up Comment Period On “Strawman” Rights Protections For New gTLD’s - ICANN just opened up the comment period on a the IPC/BC proposal for Improvements and Enhancements to the RPMs for new gTLDs [PDF, 68 KB].
Out of discussions evaluating the merits of these recommendations, the group produced at a strawman solution to address the concerns of affected stakeholders.

Just Because Your gTLD Application Escaped GAC Early Warning, It Doesn’t Mean The GAC Won’t Object To It - This week the Governmental Advisory Council (GAC) issued 242 early warnings on new gTLD applications.
There seems to be a belief held in the domainer community that if an application didn’t receive a GAC early warning, the GAC will can’t or won’t object to a string or an application.
Wrong.

How many new gTLDs Applications Will Not Be Approved? Dirk Krischenowski of DotBerlin Says More Than 700 - In a story posted by Netnames.com, DotBerlin promoter Dirk Krischenowski gave his analysis on how many gTLD applications might not make it.
As we know there are over 1,900 applications still alive after several have been withdrawn for around 1,400 different strings.

ICANN Issues Details On New gTLD Prioritization Draw For Dec 17th -
ICANN just released details on the Prioritization Draw (“Draw”) that will be held on 17 December 2012 in Los Angeles to assign priority numbers to all new gTLD applications including the place that the draw will take place.
Each application will be assigned a randomly-drawn priority number.
These priority numbers will be used to determine the order in which initial evaluation results are released.

Biggest Winners & Losers From GAC Early Warnings: .Gay, .Sex, .DotGreen, Uniregistry, Generic & Professional TLD’s - Reviewing the GAC early warnings issued last night some winners really stick out.
New gTLD applications that were generally thought would get a GAC early warning, but did not include .gay, .sex, .adult, and .porn.
Another clear winner out of the GAC early warnings was Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry that applied for 54 new gTLD’s and did not receive even one early warning.
