113 New gTLD Pass IE: .London; .Windows; .Bloomberg; .Broadway; .Ferrari; .Sony; .Samsung - 113 new gTLD applications passed ICANN Initial Evaluation (IE) today. The winner of the day might be Uniregistry which had 12 applications pass IE today which had been previously passed over. Big New gTLD Brand Withdraws As L’Oréal Drops Application For .LOREAL - L’Oréal which is one of the largest brand applicants for new gTLD’s just withdrew its application for the its matching new gTLD brand .LOREAL L’Oréal which applied for 14 new gTLD has now withdrawn 3 applications. .CLUB DOMAINS WINS The New gTLD .CLUB “IN HISTORIC FIRST PRIVATE AUCTION” - .Club Domains, LLC announced today they have won the rights to the new generic top level domain (gTLD) name .CLUB The .CLUB name was obtained in the first private auction to be completed since ICANN began the new gTLD process. 1st Private Auction May Be Complete As Donuts Withdraws Its 1st New gTLD Application: .Vote - Donuts has withdrawn its 1st new gTLD of the 307 applications it filed with ICANN. This certainly could be the result of a private auction which are underway this week. There is only one other applicant for the new gTLD .Vote and that company application, under the name of Monolith Registry LLC was filed by Afilias which operates the .info TLD. ICANN: Trademark Clearing House Update - ICANN during its Webinar today gave some updated data on the Trademark Clearing House (TMCH) Today 636 trademark holders have filed marks with the TMCH. A total of 3,027 trademark records have been filed of which 1,380 have been verified. There are another 1,132 in the process of being verified. 503 have been determined by the TMCH to have been submitted incorrectly and 12 have been determined to be invalid. 1st New gTLD’s Could Be Delegated As Soon As Aug 28th w/ Sunrise Ending Oct 27th - As part of its Webinar today ICANN laid out a “best case scenario” for when the first new gTLD’s  might roll out. According to a time line laid out by ICANN the first new gTLD could be delegated to the root by as early as August 28, 2013 in which event the Sunrise notice for trademark and other rights holders for the new gTLD could start the following day August 29th. ICANN New gTLD Contention Auctions To Start In October - During a Webinar today, ICANN announced it is intending to hold the first round of the ICANN Last Resort auction starting in October for those Contention sets which DO NOT include community applications. Auctions are also not expected for strings that have outstanding objections in the first group of strings. Under the ICANN Guidebook, Last resort auctions are to be held in groups at set times. Radix Withdraws Its 2nd Application .Play & Starting Dot Withdraws .Design - Two more new gTLD application were withdrawn on ICANN’s site tonight making the total of new gTLD applications that have been withdrawn to 71. Radix which is part of the Directi Group which originally applied for 31 new gTLD’s, withdrew its application for .Play. Private New gTLD Auctions Are Underway - According to ApplicantAuction.com the first private auction for new gTLD strings are underway. Although other than .Club which publicly announced it would be participating in the auction which started today, there hasn’t been any public announcement on  how many other auctions are going on or what the string are. ICANN Appoints First Two New gTLD Data Escrow Agents - ICANN announced today that it has selected the first two new gTLD Data escrow agents. All new gTLD registry operators will be required to regularly deposit a backup copy of their TLD registration data through one of the approved data escrow service providers. The data held in escrow may be released to ICANN under certain circumstances in order to preserve the stability of the TLD in case of an emergency. The new gTLD application was for an  IDN: 广东 Which was applied for by the Xinhua News Agency and had a prioritization number of 1,772 The English equivalent for the IDN string is: Guangdong The applicant has one other new gTLD application submitted with ICANN which is the IDN of 新闻, which is the English equivalent of the word: News.  That application has a prioritization number of 29 and has already passed ICANN initial evaluation. .Club Domains LLC Raises $3.5 Million & Is Headed To Private Auction - .Club Domains, LLC an applicant for the new top level domain, (new gTLD) .CLUB, announced today that they have raised $3.5 Million dollars and is heading to a private auction next week. Earlier today Domainnamewire.com reported that .Club Domains, LLC filed a Form D with the “U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission seeking to raise up to $7 million”. 91 New gTLD Pass IE: .NYC, .Microsoft, .GOP; .Kiwi, .Monster, .Berlin, .Youtube - a Total of 91 new gTLD applications passed ICANN Initial Evaluation (IE)  including 8 applications which were previously passed over. This is the most new gTLD applications to pass IE in a single week and ICANN is now processing 100 new gTLD applications up from 50 per week as they promised would happen in June. ICANN Still Has Virtually No Revenue Coming In From Last Resort Auctions - If two or more applicants applied for the same new gTLD unless the parties can resolve their contention between themselves the parties go to an ICANN last resort auction. We have chatted before that we expect some of the new gTLD string auctions to go into the $xx,xxx,xxx range. Now At 66 ICANN Expects 105 New gTLD Applications To Be Withdrawn Before End of IE - In its 2014 budget ICANN expects a total of 646 new gTLD applications will be withdrawn up from its estimate of 545. We know that there were 1931 applications submitted for 1,409 strings. So we know that all the non-winning applications in strings with more than one application will be withdrawn accounting for 522 of the 646 applications.
