ICANN’s Name Collision Study Could Derail 20% Of All Applied For New gTLD Strings - ICANN released the Name Collision Study it commission, which suggests the the applications for the new gTLD’s .Corp and .Home be indefinitely delayed and that 20% of all new gTLD applied for strings be delayed for at least 3-6 months as additional studies are conducted.

Donuts Inc., the largest applicant for ICANN’s new gTLD program announced that Jeff deCillia has joined the company as Chief Financial Officer.

Boston Globe Is Sold Including Boston.com & New gTLD .Boston For 70 Million To Owner of Red Sox -
Boston Red Sox principal owner John Henry is going to buy The Boston Globe. The Boston Globe also owns and operates Boston.com and is the sole applicant for the new gTLD .Boston for $70 million in cash.
The seller is the Times Co. which operates the New York Times.
The Times Co. is taking a huge beating on the transaction as it purchased the Globe for $1.1 billion it paid for the paper in 1993.

Highlighting the results today are the Geographic applications for .Quebec; and .Scot
Leading .Brands applications passing today were the applications for .Android; .Honda; .Staples; .Gap; .AARP; .GMO; and .Ram
Some generic string passing today included .Organic; .BlackFriday; and .Porn
With today’s results ICANN has gone through all applications with a prioritization number of 1,500 with 1,384 getting a disposition.

Merck & Co Legal Rights Objections Dismissed By WIPO - In two more WIPO decision out today Merck Co., Inc. objection to the applications of Merck KGaA to .Merck and .eMerck were thrown out.
Those filing Legal Rights Objections have now lost all 27 decisions that have been issued by WIPO
However these case varied from many of the previous cases which dealt with front running trademark application.
In these case the objector is the global drug company Merck one of the largest drug companies in the world.

Donuts Commits 68 New gTLD’s To Private Auction - According to a press release we just received Donuts, has committed 68 of its applied for new gTLD’s to a private auction that will be held on August 13th.
Of course for any auction to take place all applicants for that particular string will have to agree to holding the private auction on the same terms and conditions as Donuts has.

L’Oréal applied for 14 new gTLD’s. one IDN 8 brand applications and five generic’s to be operated on a closed basis .Hair; .Beauty; .Skin; Salon and .Makeup
The only .Brand application not still not withdrawn with ICANN by L’Oréal is for .Lancome
The application for .Matrix has a prioritization number of 1,498
This marks the 105th new gTLD application to be withdrawn from ICANN.

Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry Withdraws Two More New gTLD Applications: .Media & .Country - Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry withdrew applications for two new gTLD’s today reflected on ICANN’s site.
The application were for .Media and .Country
Both of these application were due to have Initial Evaluation by ICANN released tomorrow as they had prioritization numbers 1,242 and 1,232 respectively so by withdrawing tonight Uniregistry picks up a 70% refund instead of the 35% it would have been entitled to after tomorrow.
