MiTek USA, Inc Withdraws All 4 Of Its New gTLD Applications Making it 43 Withdrawn Apps - MiTek USA, Inc. has withdrawn all four of its new gTLD applications.
The withdrawn is now reflected in ICANN’s website.
The four new gTLD’s applications were for .MII, .Connectors, .MITEK and .SAPPHIRE.
.Mii faced rejection as being too close to .Mil, the domain name extension for the US military.
MiTek was the only applicant for any of the 4 withdrawn new gTLD’s
The four withdrawn applications by MiTek make it a total of 43 new gTLD applications to be withdrawn out of 1,930 submitted applications.

The GAC Puts The Brakes on Hundreds of New gTLD Applications Including Closed Generics - The GAC issued Its Advice from the ICANN meeting in Beijing and its a long one.
The very long list effecting hundreds of applications which is going to push back the program for some time and may shut the door on all closed generic applications unless the company can show issuing the close generic to one company is in the “public good”.
We long ago said at TheDomains.com that closed generics were one of the biggest policy mistakes ICANN made in the new gTLD program.

2 More Objections Hit The ICC: .Rugby & .Insurance - A couple of more objection have hit the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) site today as part of ICANN new gTLD program
The International Rugby Board filed a Community Objection to .Rugby, and the American Insurance Association filed yet another objection to .Insurance.
The two are in addition to the 66 objections we noted that were posted on the ICC site 5 days ago.
Including this objection, there are at least 5 objections to .insurance filed with the ICC.

Google Lays Out Plans For A “Dotless .Search” New gTLD - In a letter to ICANN today Google laid out its plan on how it plans on operating 4 new gTLD that it applied for as a closed Registry with the most interesting being plans for .Search which is plans on operating “a redirect service on the “dotless” .search domain (http://search/).”

ICANN: All New gTLD Initial Evaluations Should Be Completed By End Of August - ICANN now says they will be done with the Initial Evaluation for new all new gTLD applications by the end of August 2013
The statements came in a session from the ICANN Beijing meeting, entitled “New gTLD Program Status

39 More New gTLD Pass Initial Evaluation As ICANN Gets Through The IDN’s - 39 more new gTLD’s passed ICANN Initial Evaluation (IE) today and more importantly ICANN has now gotten through all the IDN applications, meaning that next week non-IDN domain names for the first time will pass initial Evaluation.
All applications through the priority number of 108 have now gone through IE (but not all have passed yet) meaning next week we will see the first non-IDN new gTLD pass IE.

39th New gTLD & 3rd IDN Application Withdrawn - Bridgestone Corporation has withdrawn an application for the new gTLD IDN string of 普利司通 with ICANN.
The application which has a prioritization number of 1769.
According to the application:
.普利司通 are the Chinese characters representing “Bridgestone”, meant to be read roughly similar to the pronunciation of “Bridgestone” in English.
“The string doesnʹt hold any particular meaning in Chinese.”

32 Objections To New gTLD Applications Filed; 13 By Verisign, 9 By Google - 32 objections on new gTLD applications filed with the International Centre For Dispute Resolution, based string confusion, are now reflected on their website.
The objection process is part of the ICANN new gTLD program.

4 More New gTLD’s Withdrawn: L’Oréal, American Heart Association & .Buy - 4 more new gTLD’s applications have been withdrawn bringing the total of withdrawn application to 38.
The additional applications showing as being withdrawn as of tonight are:
欧莱雅 filed by L’Oréal with prioritization number of 72. This is an interesing one as it was expected to be in intital Evaluation with this Friday’s ICANN release and therefore the applicant elected to take the 70% refund just days before that amount dropped to 35%.

27 More New gTLD Applications Pass Initial Evaluation - ICANN just passed 27 more new gTLD applications today bringing the total of passed applications to 52.
Included in today list an application from Verisign another application for Donuts and One From Google, Amazon, and Afilias.
This batch of new gTLD applications brings the prioritization number of reviewed applications up to 60.

Should Verisign’s Attempt To Get .Co Bar Its Objections To .Cam & The Rest? - Now that we published the objection filed by Verisign to .Cam as being to similar to .Com, along with the supporting documents, I have been asked what my opinion is on the objection, which is likely to be duplicated in large part when we see Verisign’s objections to .Vet, .Company, .Network and .Bom and maybe many more.
I think Verisign raises some good points regarding confusion between .cam and .com
No doubt on a quick look people could be visually confused between the two.

Progressive Insurance Withdraws Application For New gTLD .Insurance - Progressive Insurance has withdrawn its application for the new gTLD .insurance.
The formal name of the applicant was “Progressive Casualty Insurance Company”.
The application which had a prioritization number of 1847 was to operate the TLD on a closed basis.
Closed generics have been getting a lot of push back and ICANN recently closed a comment period for the topic of whether companies should be allowed to own a right of the dot generic extension.
