I haven’t written about many new TLD objection appeals (reconsideration requests) because there are so many and few have a chance of succeeding.
But a recent one from Famous Four Media (pdf) for .sport is unique: ICANN’s Ombudsman has supported the company’s call for a rehearing with a different panelist.

ICANN Ombudsman questioning unsuitable new TLD conflict decisions -
ICANN’s Ombudsman is looking into consistency of new top level domain name objections.
Both new top level domain name applicants and objectors have been grasping for options after falling on the adverse side of panels’ decision.
Many have filed reconsideration requests with ICANN’s board, all of which have been denied so far. Others have turned to courts.
ICANN seems content to sit on the sidelines and see how everything plays out.

ICANN Ombudsman LaHatte reappointed to second term -
Chris LaHatte appointed to second term.
ICANN’s Board of Directors has reappointed Chris LaHatte as Ombudsman to another two year term.
The ombudsman serves as an intermediary between ICANN and its constituents on matters related to things done by ICANN, its board, its staff, and constituent bodies.
Some of LaHatte’s recent decisions have been about late objections to new top level domains and a complaint by DotAfrica Connect.

ICANN Ombudsman Sticks it to “The Little Guy” -
ICANN Ombudsman upset about service from “the little guy” at Air Canada.
