Groupon registers domains for remuneration complement and POS -
Local deals company registers three domain names for retailer payment systems.
Groupon registered the domain names GrouponPayments.com, GrouponPOS.com, and GrouponTerminal.com on May 22.
Now we know why.
VentureBeat reports that the company is testing a payments solution to competed with Square and PayPal. Apparently the company is offering an iPod Touch with the card reader to merchants free of charge, and the service is priced very competitively compared to competitors.

Groupon Goods: Merchandise or Charity? -
Groupon registers domain names for “Groupon Goods”.
Over the past several days Groupon has registered over a half dozen domain names for “Groupon Goods”, including GrouponGoods.com, GrouponGoods.fr (France), and GrouponGoods.org.
I can’t find any announcements from Groupon about a new “brand” of Groupon Goods, so we’re left to speculate what the company is up to.

LivingSocial Files Its First Domain Name Complaint -
Daily deals company goes after Irish domain name.
Groupon competitor LivingSocial has filed its first ever domain name arbitration complaint.
But it’s not for a typo of its main LivingSocial.com domain name. Instead, the company is going after the Irish domain name LivingSocial.ie.
The company started offering discounts for consumers in Ireland last fall using its main LivingSocial.com domain name.

Sorry Domainers, But Groupon.com was a Better Name than Coupon.com -
Company’s choice of a made up word was smart.
I’ve read a lot of posts and comments on domain blogs over the past couple week about Groupon while the company was considering a buyout offer from Google.
I don’t remember what I read where, but here is an amalgamation: it isn’t worth $6 billion (which it reportedly turned down), its technology is basic and easy to replicate, there’s little barrier to entry, and the name sucks compared to a good generic one.
