In an article on Wired.com it seems that Overstock is straying from their core business and working on a side project that hopes to democratize Wall Street. Building on top of the existing Bitcoin protocol. If the project is successful there is a plan to spin the business off as a separate company.

Mark Cuban Does Not See Long Term Future for Bitcoin as a Currency -
Mark Cuban does not see Bitcoin being a long term play as far as being a currency. Cuban told Entrepreneur that if ever got into Bitcoin it would be purely for the entertainment value, kind of like buying and selling baseball cards. This is not the first time Cuban has expressed a disinterest in the crypto currency, back in March at SXSW that he did not see the long term play.

Study Shows Majority of U.S. Consumers Reluctant to Buy or Use Bitcoin -
Andrew Moran wrote a piece for Coin Buzz that looked at a study conducted by the Massachusetts Division of Banks. In the study close to two – thirds of those who responded said they were unlikely to buy or use the virtual currency. Bitcoin Could Become Legal Tender in Australia According To Official -
Australian official suggests making Bitcoin legal tender in Australia. In a talk earlier in the week Chris Jordan, the Australian tax commissioner said some would like to see Bitcoin as legal tender. Currently Bitcoin does not meet the definition under Australian law, but he said that could change.

The Winklevoss Twins of Facebook fame are still working on bringing out the first ever Bitcoin ETF. They have hired the lady known as Spider Woman, Kathleen Moriarty. Moriarty worked on the very first ETF back in 1993 and has a treasure trove of experience.

Overstock Sees Positive Earnings Impact from Accepting Bitcoin -
Overstock sees Bitcoin having a postitive effect on earnings for 2014. The company told Reuters they expect Bitcoin to add 4 cents per share, they are expecting $1.5 billion in sales for the year.

EU Court to Decide if Bitcoin Transactions Are Subject to Value Added Tax -
Jane Genova wrote an article on PaymentWeek.com about the EU deciding on whether or not to tax Bitcoin transactions. Earlier in the year Sweden asked for the EU to rule on whether or not Bitcoin should be taxed. The UK has ruled no valued added tax on Bitcoin.

A group of Swiss computer scientists conducted a study that took a look at web activity and social media chat around Bitcoin. They concluded when there is a surge in chatter around Bitcoin that the cryptocurrency is bound for a fall.

Silicon Valley VC is a solitary Winner of Government Bitcoin Auction -
Last week the U.S. government held an auction for 30,000 bitcoins that were previously seized. Reuters is reporting that Tim Draper a well known Silicon Valley VC purchased the coins. In the article Draper noted that he saw the auction as a sign that Bitcoin had a real value to society, if not they would have just buried them.
