GoDaddy has acquired domain name sales platform Afternic from NameMedia in a move that will make it easier for people to buy domain names that are already registered.
The acquisition also includes NameMedia’s domain name parking platform SmartName. The BuyDomains.com site and NameMedia’s domain name portfolio are not part of the acquisition.

Total domain sales for the week, including confidential sales and sales under $1000, summed to $1,108,62
All sales were led by a Net, in this case Fab.net which was sold by Frank Schilling’s Name Administration’s For $39,000.
All .com sales were led by a Tucows.com owned domain DreamLover.com which sold for $19,200

Afternic.com Sells $1.425 Million In Domains Including A $500K Sale - Afternic’s published its reportable weekly domain sales for the week of 8/12/13 – 8/18/13.
Total domain sales for the week, including confidential sales and sales under $1000, summed to $1,425,642.
This total included a $500k+ private transaction.
The reportable transactions were led by HJX.com which sold for $29,000 which looks like it sold through Godaddy.com

Billionaire hedge fund chairman buys his name as a domain name.
Afternic had a solid sales week last week thanks to a $500,000 domain name sale (the name was not disclosed).
A billionaire – technically his hedge fund – spent a lot less than that on his personal name.
Billionaire Bruce Kovner, chair of one of the world’s largest hedge funds, Caxton Associates, paid $2,395 for BruceKovner.com.

King.com Limited Midasplayer.com Ltd. filed a UDRP against the domain name CandyCrushSecrets.com
The domain name CandyCrushSecrets.com was registered in February 19th of this year by someone in Malaysia.
The domain CandyCrush.com was first registered in April 2012, and was purchased in February of this year for a whopping $1,877 at Afternic.

Tucows sells AHN.org for $50,000 to hospital system.
Healthcare provider and insurance company Highmark spent $50,000 for the AHN.org domain name, topping Afternic’s list of reportable sales for last week.
The domain name is the acronym for Allegheny Health Network, which Highmark announced in April as the new name for a Pittsburgh hospital system anchored by West Penn Allegheny.
The health insurer bid $1.1 billion to buy the West Penn Allegheny Health System.

PayHere Payment Services Ltd bought PayHere.net for $3,900. The domain was sold by Tucows’ YummyNames. Marchex owns the .com version.

Domain marketplaces get a couple notable client wins.
There were a couple unrelated “client win” announcements this morning coming from major domain name marketplaces.
First, SnapNames announced that it has inked Japan Registry to an expired domain deal. Japan Registry, part of GMO Internet Group, will send its expired domain stream to SnapNames in an exclusive deal. GMO holds a 90% share of the gTLD market in Japan.

Afternic.com reportable weekly domain sales report for the week of 6/17/13 – 6/23/13 is out total sales including confidential sales and sales under $1000, summed to $1,157,605.
All sales were led by Emeraude.com which is the French word for Emerald and yes I had to look it up.
