Now with SnapNames, too.
Domains expire all over the place, day in day out. Some expirations are shadowed by backorders, which can lead to auctions. Depending on the TLD, the registrar, and – yes – even chance, those auctions may take place at NameJet or at another venue … like SnapNames, which will be contributing sales data to these reports henceforward. Scroll down, and say hello!
Some readers may remember that, until last December, most of the results I reported in these articles came from GoDaddy auctions. Then suddenly GoDaddy went dark. Actually, I’ve been privately collecting GoDaddy data ever since; but I beefed up my NameJet research till there’s no longer any room to display or discuss GoDaddy results.
What a difference 9 months make! Looking back at my last article from the GoDaddy period, I see that NameJet’s high sale was a 5-digit numeric at $4.1k. Back then, I declared that “unusual”. Fast forward to my report from last week; and NameJet was selling a pair of 6-digit numerics, each for double that price! As for this week, NameJet’s 2nd-highest expired domain sale is another NNNNN.com … but 4 times as expensive ($15.5k). Meanwhile, SnapNames’s #2 is a 7-digit numeric at $3k. How do we say “yikes!” in Chinese?

Your math teacher told you trigonometry mattered; and if he sees the $26.5k sale of LandSurvey.com, then I’ll bet he feels pretty well vindicated. Gute.com ($11.1k) means “good” in German, although there’s no guarantee at this point that the winning bidder valued the domain for that reason. Das Gute daran ist – the good thing about domains is that they’re versatile. China gobbles up just about anything bite-sized (like “GUTE” + .CN). And a Güte in Canada manufactures “shepherd huts” on cast-iron wheels.
NetEffect.com ($4.1k) looks to have been bought as an upgrade for NetEffect-IT.com. (They’ve already set up forwarding to the hyphen-free version.) There’s a Chinese book store at KenWen.org that might want KenWen.com ($3.8k) – not to mention a marketer at KenWen.cc. Yes, Strategia.com ($3.6k) is Italian for “strategy”; and apparently Lavanta.com ($2.4k) is Turkish for “lavender”. Nonetheless, either of these domains may end up a brand name for English speakers. (Lavanta.com conjures “advantage”, “vaunted”, and “vantage point”.)

“Ambiance” is normally used only in the singular; but there may be an interior designer who’ll step outside the box of common usage to create Ambiances.com ($815). Let grammatical prudes be NIPT.com ($1.5k) in the bud! Take NoPrisoners.com ($1.4k)!
Sometimes domains can surprise us. When you see TEES.net, do you think of T-shirts or golf websites? Both equally legitimate, but which is more likely? Personally I felt sure PowerBeat.com ($1.2k) must be about music, especially drums; but it has already named a “crank-based torque sensor” for bicyclists. Bet they’ll pedal with more torque while listening to this power beat:
Plantable.com ($910) matches a .ORG website for finding local nurseries and garden centers. Linford.com ($1.2k) is a surname used by multiple companies and websites, whereas the only Unisem I know of is a global semiconductor manufacturer with 7,000 employees.

BarkAvenue.com ($620)? Puns, puns, puns … Down boy, BadDawg.com ($513)! In Greek mythology, Aeson.com ($522) is the father of Jason – leader of the Argonauts and jilter of Medea. Since Aeson is a JSON parsing / encoding library, even that domain functions as a pun!
TravelingNurses.com ($416) follows 4 nursing domain auctions from the week before. Here you’ll notice a couple of names that merge repeating letters: Valu{e}Expert and Exa{m}Media. Those seem quite problematic to me, but to each his own. Coincidentally, Ferry.org ($655) reminds me that Andrew Allemann just reported the end-user sale of Ferries.at earlier this week. From those I suppose you could Disembark.com ($595) at the ShoreGate.com ($487).

Pooshy.com ($232) sounds like a site for constipation relief, but I wouldn’t want to insist on that interpretation. People tell me that any brand name, however awkward or ugly, can be overcome with a great offering and a large marketing budget. InfinityFunding.com ($405) might be nearly enough. John Fogerty feels my pain: “Oh ! Lord, Stuck in Lodi again.” Wonder what it’s like to live in a town – the real town of LodiHomes.com ($343) – made famous as a dead-end backwater? Probably a nice place.
Acronyms are meant to be short and sweet, like JUGO.net ($296), which is also Spanish for “juice”. NAMDNTL.org – the National Alliance of Market Developers … National? – apparently didn’t get the memo.

DigiTape.com ($230) would make a great brand name for film digitization. If you ever go scuba diving in Mexico, then you may find yourself visiting a website at DiveManzanillo.com ($195). For a drunk-driving attorney, DWIHelp.com ($129) makes a succinct sales pitch. Ikuisuus.net ($130) – Finnish for “eternity” – matches a record label and a character from Marvel comics … provided you’re reading in Finnish. How rare are the Finnish editions, one wonders?

eCigs.co was a great buy at $69. Domainers, kick yourselves! In any city, public GreenSpace.org ($80) matters very much; and the theme fits well with .ORG. In case you’re wondering if ComicPants.com ($84) are funny, they’re not; but these leggings do really exist.
