SnoopNames monitors last-minute domain name backorders.
A new service called SnoopNames claims to enable you to spy on other peoples’ backorders in order to backorder potentially valuable domain names.
The site monitors various expired domain sites to spot initial backorders placed on domains in the last 24 hours before the cut off. The idea is to let the “crowd” help you find domain names worth backordering.
Of course, anyone who waits until the last day to place a backorder in order to not draw attention to a domain name probably won’t be a fan of this service. SnoopNames’ creator points out that larger domainers are already snooping on backorders with their own technology, and all of the data is public anyway.
SnoopNames appears to be monetized via affiliate links.

Snapnames is a closed backorder system, not public like NJ – how would anyone know backorders placed with them?
Mike says
its snapnames expiring and snapnames deleting (data they do publish) backorders for regular drops are protected and no one can see it.
James says
The site is a bit misleading then…
Mike says
Godaddy is also expiring and NJ has prerelease and dropping etc serves its needs, it’s not really a newbie tool
JZ says
i typically don’t backorder anywhere that backorders aren’t private anyways. as far as i know backordering pending deletes at godaddy is private while backordering their expired domains is not.

Quote: “We hope SnoopNames brings some much needed excitement into the world of domaining, and in turn raises the value of quality domains.”
But if the domains are truly expiring, then there is no domain owner to benefit from the raised value in a sale. Purchase costs may go up, but that only benefits the drop catching / expired domain market place at domainers’ expense.
The benefit for buyers might be more convenient access to domain options. But insofar as the value is raised, such buyers are harmed.
This isn’t really a criticism. It just seems an odd sales pitch to emphasize price increases.

Great point, unless you are a portfolio holder and aren’t buying anymore ha.

i dont think they can last a week, this isnt public information and the services will play a catch or chase game of closing their accounts. if you have to be logged in, then theres a T and c, and im sure it says cant disseminate.

Imagine if SnapNames think about filing a UDRP against SnoopNames for typo-squatting.
