Sedo’s better-late-than-never parking changes are benefiting domainers.
It took Sedo a while to upgrade its domain parking program, but domain owners are starting to see the results. On August 17 I wrote about some of the changes to Sedo’s program, which includes new layouts, rotating graphics, and a new advertising feed. Also, Sedo has increased its payout percentage. Long rumored to be about 50%, Sedo was known for offering a lower RPM than other domain parking services.
In its latest newsletter Sedo discusses why earnings are increasing:
We’re now passing more of the earnings on to you. Sure, this means less revenue for us, but we’re hoping you’ll tell your friends about all of the money you’re making with Sedo parking, so they’ll park with us too! Second, we’re now using a new feed from our advertising provider, which will impact both CTR and CPC for many keywords.
Sedo’s new dynamic pricing has a very positive impact on the CTR and EPC of many keywords. This may cause fluctuations in your portfolio’s performance during the transition period. The best way to take advantage of this great opportunity for increased earnings is to optimize for targeted, relevant and best-fit keywords. Our overall payout rate is actually increasing, so once your keywords have been adjusted, your overall portfolio should be earning even more than it is today. Therefore, a “keyword†to the wise – if you want to make the most of the new system, you’ll want to double-check your optimization to make sure that you’ve picked the most relevant keyword possible.
We know that the new feed earns more money—and we will be passing even more of it on to you than we did before. So make sure to double-check that your keywords are focused, relevant, highly-commercial terms. It may take a few keyword adjustments to find the right fit for each of your domains, but it is definitely worth the effort.
So, why did we do this? The primary advantage of Sedo’s new revamped parking system is that it allows us to pay even more competitive rates on tens of thousand of new keywords, which were previously weak. In general, the shift from a small number of broad keywords to more precisely targeted and highly-commercial keywords will enable you to earn more money under the new system.
These changes have a dramatic effect on keyword payout rates and enhance Sedo’s competitiveness for domains where we may not have previously been competitive.
I can attest that earnings are going up on Sedo. It might be time to try out a few domains on Sedo that didn’t perform well in the past.

Yeah, I started seeing a big jump on my parking dollars from Sedo about 1-2 weeks ago. So far the increase in parking dollars was about tenfold from previous earnings. It’s great!

Yes, I re-optimized the domains, taking advantage of the different color-layout schemes and stock photos available. It was a time-consuming process to re-optimize my parked domains, especially if you have lots of domains in your portfolio, but the payoff great!!
