Sedo has signed an agreement with Dotster to place its listings in domain search results.
The agreement between Sedo and Dotster comes less than a year after Afternic signed a similar agreement with Dotster. Dotster likely receives a commission on any sales it refers to Sedo and it’s possible Dotster wasn’t satisfied with the results from its Afternic agreement.
A press release from Sedo alludes to the company’s larger database of domains for sale compared to Afternic:
With this agreement, Dotster’s customers will have instant access to Sedo’s market leading database of more than six million aftermarket domain names, more than tripling the chances a name will be available for purchase than through the secondary domain market services Dotster previously offered.
To see the integration in action, I searched for the domain name “Introduced.com” on Dotster. This is a name I own that is currently on auction at Sedo. To the right of the domain availability results is a box titled “Premium Domains” that lists domains available from Sedo (see graphic below).
It will be interesting to see if the acquisition of Afternic by Name Media, and Afternic’s removal of adult and gambling domains from its listings, will give Afternic a leg up with other registrars or similar agreements. Among the registrars Afternic has listing agreements with is Register.com. Network Solutions has its own offering service for making anonymous offers on any registered domain name.
