Sedo’s new auction system is delivering results, including a 6-figure sale.
It’s been less than a month since domain aftermarket Sedo launched its new auction format and it is already delivering big sales. Tractors.com sold for $153,500 to lead the charge. Another key sale was W2.com, which sold for $31,000. (W2 is a common tax form in the US.)
There are two types of listings in Sedo’s auctions. The first is a brokerage-assisted auction. In this scenario, the owner of a premium domain lists the domain at auction without receiving a bid first. The seller sets a reserve and the domain sells only if the reserve is met. The second type of listing is when an offer has been received on a domain and the seller decides to accept the offer as the minimum and send the domain to auction. This is similar to Afternic’s auction format.
One of the unintended but neat consequences of Sedo’s auction system is that the domain industry gets more insight into the domains Sedo is selling. Typically the industry hears about the big sales and only a handful of smaller sales. But now almost all of the company’s sales can be viewed on the auction page. Taking a look at the auction page shows Sedo’s dominance in international domains. It also shows that Sedo is generating 30+ smaller domain sales every day.
Here are some of Sedo’s auctions for the next week that are currently priced at $2,500 or more: fff.biz, eltern.tv, neufahrzeuge.de, sponsoring.de, betlive.us, neighbour.com, 0x.com, music-download.de, mrsx.com.
