NamesCon 2016 Sponsor Spotlight on Radix

Final preparations are being made for NamesCon 2016! The agenda is all set, and upwards of 1,200 people are expected to attend this event. This should be the largest NamesCon yet!

Today’s sponsor spotlight interview is with Karn Jajoo, Global Communications Manager at Radix. In the interview, Karn discusses how Radix was started, how the company is working to achieve its milestones, and some thoughts on the domain industry and new gTLD extensions.

If you have any questions about Radix, you are welcome to ask them here. See you all soon!

What is your company’s mandate, what sets you apart?

Radix is part of the Directi Group, an industry leading Web products and services Provider serving a growing audience of customers in over 230 countries.

Each Directi venture has organically grown without any external investment or debt. They are all profitable and among the top 5-10 worldwide in their respective space.

A proven track record, long term vision and strategy, and a portfolio of the very best extensions is what sets Radix apart.

Who benefits from your product or service?

Small businesses, big brands, non-profits, individuals, anyone who needs a web presence and is looking for a memorable web address benefits from new domains extensions. New TLDs have made it possible for registrars to offer a much wider variety and has opened up an affordable inventory of new investment opportunities for domain investors.

What factors have contributed to your company’s growth and success?

We have been able to create a portfolio of very rich and memorable extensions, both generic and vertical.

A young and highly motivated team, Radix (rather notoriously) embodies the ‘work hard, play hard’ adage. Our channel partners have been the biggest contributors to the success of our launches.

.Online has been breaking records since day 1 by having the highest registrations within 24 hours, fastest to 50000 registrations and 100,000 registrations.

The marketing team has been engaging with end consumers across the globe through various tech events, vertical specific conferences, and outdoor marketing to raise awareness about new web extensions.

What’s the story behind how your company was founded?

Bhavin Turakhia, the founder of Radix, is a serial entrepreneur and domain industry veteran who has taken a number of online businesses from inception to successful global presence. With established international businesses across the Internet infrastructure, he and his team turned their attention toward creating rich and memorable top-level domain extensions

How would you define your company strategy and vision?

The need to expand the internet namespace to give way to new meaningful extensions – both generic and vertical specific, was an obvious next step towards as more companies and individuals get online and internet continues to penetrate the world over. Take the example of startups: one cannot have a company or product name without a corresponding URL. Our research shows that around 65% of all  .com ‘check-availability’ lookups result in names not being available and approximately 32% of companies have  had to rename their product/company due to the domain name being unavailable. So, startups either compromise with a less marketable – and thus cheaper name. By offering memorable names at a competitive price on a secure and stable platform, registrants can find a name they want on a fresh, new namespace that provides endless possibilities.

What major milestones has your company accomplished?

If we look at two metrics: registrations and usage –

All 4 of our generic strings consistently feature among the fastest growing TLDs. Website, Online and Space have crossed 100k registrations already.

In terms of usage, each of our generic extensions has more than 100 live websites in the Alexa 1 million.

Strategic partnerships and early adoption by leaders within the vertical have greatly helped the extensions .press , .host and .tech. Our recently launch .Tech already has over 60 pioneers and 30 partners and has seen organic usage from organizations like Viacom and CTA(company that produced the Consumer Electronic Show).

How will your company engage attendees at the upcoming  NamesCon?

While we do not have a magician at our booth this time, our full-time manager / part-time DJ Sandeep Ramchandani would be playing a set at the NamesCon WaterNight Gala; that would certainly be a conversation starter! We’re also very excited about participating in the ROTD auction.

Can you tell us about your first time at  NamesCon  and what you got out of it?

Despite being a first time attendee to my first big domain industry event I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming the entire community was. We had a lot of great conversations at the booth where Simon (the fore mentioned illusionist) drew a lot of crowd and it was a lot of fun to watch him perplex many industry veterans. The event was extremely well organized and Richard and his crew were very helpful throughout.

What was one of the most memorable sessions or keynotes at a previous  NamesCon?

The keynote sessions were very informative, it’s really hard to pick a favorite. I quite enjoyed the domaining masterclass from Simon Cousins.

How has  NamesCon  helped your company achieve its goals?

NamesCon is a must go event for anyone in the Domain Industry. It’s a great event for networking with others in the domain industry.

What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?

Well obviously we think they are great J We strongly believe that good meaningful new extensions are here to stay and will play huge part in the way the internet will evolve over the next decade. That we’ve been able to outbid multinational giants like Google and Amazon to acquire some of our extensions is testimony to how confident we feel about the potential of new gTLDs.

What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming conference?

Looking forward to meeting and networking with our peers and partners from across the industry !

Where can attendees find out more about your company, product or services while at  NamesCon?

We’d love to have a talk over at our booth where we also have some great schwag to give away!

If you have a company representative speaking at  NamesCon, is there anything you can share about what to expect during your session or keynote?

Our Director of Channel Partnerships Neha Naik would be on the panel for Succuesful marketing of new TLDs on Tuesday Evening !
