Moniker has released information about some of the premium domains to be auctioned at next month’s TRAFFIC conference in Las Vegas.
The next live domain name auction from Moniker will take place during the TRAFFIC conference March 5-8 at the Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moniker issued a press release listing some of the names that will be available.
The list includes: Text.com, Smoking.com, Ethanol.com, FreshFood.com, Greeting.com, Minnesota.org, MoviePreviews.com, OnlineVideos.com, Privacy.com, Reunite.com, and Sopranos.com. The original press release erroneously listed a number of .mobi domains for sale including Directions.mobi, Pizza.mobi, RealEstate.mobi and Singles.mobi. While it’s possible that one or more of these domains will be in the auction, RealEstate.com is on dotMobi’s list of domains that will be sold through an RFP process to ensure it is put to good use. Furthermore, Pizza.mobi is on Sedo’s list of domain names it intends to auction on behalf of dotMobi. (Incidentally, I have not been able to find Sedo’s auction for Roses.mobi, which was supposed to kick off on Valentines’ Day).
Unlike Moniker’s last TRAFFIC auction, bidders need not attend the conference in order to bid on domains. By paying a $499 absentee fee, anyone can bid on live auction domains through a pre-established proxy bid and can participate in the silent auction.

Some information regarding the sedo (roses.mobi) auction:

Interesting. I learned about the roses.mobi auction in Sedo’s newsletter, which makes me think that all of their customers read about it.

Looks like the .mobi (s) are heating up. Invest.mobi went for 22k on sedo.. Save.mobi 10k and some change. I have had numerous 5 figure offer for my names as of late. I believe the gambling/betting area on .mobi(s) will break some records later in the year. I am thinking roses.mobi will bloom to around 80k to 110k when the final bell rings.

I suspect .mobi will cool down a bit. Yes, there will still be some big sales but people will realize this domain won’t realize its value for another 5 years or so.

LOL.. anyone paying for .mobi domain names a bit misguided. 100k for roses.mobi? Why pay 6 figures when you still have to market the extension? Roses.com/.net/.org/.co.uk/ and almost any other extension you can think of is more popular. It seems to be some people late to the game are trying to buy some names in a useless extention and trying to market them as something amazing.. I am sure a few people will get caught. Roses.mobi should be worth about 700 bucks…maybe.

Are they for real? Who the heck is gonna pay a nickel for such a stupid extension?
They say it’s backed by Google, yet I can’t help but notice that Google now has autodetection on ots main .COM url and can sense if you are visiting from a cell phone. If it detects a cell visitor, it automatically gives the lite version of its page. Whoops. There goes the need for .mobi!
don m says
Toy yoda, well that is fine for google, but what about the other 5 billion websites that cannot dectect that?
Rock- Um flowers.mobi went for 200k so that should answer your question.
We relly won’t know if .mobi pans out for at least 3 or so years, until then we get to have fun and speculate on the .mobi extensions.
rock says
Unfortunately, one buyer in a specific .mobi extension does not translate to a deep market for the rest of .mobi’s. Unless that same bidder wants to speculate on other .mobi’s, roses.mobi shouldn’t go for more than a few hundred bucks. If you had roses.com/net/org/.co.uk.. you can certainly sell it for more.
