Is the GoDaddy Girl selling domains? Dotster just announced the “Dot Girls”.
Apparently selling domain names is a lot like selling beer. GoDaddy started the trend with the “GoDaddy Girl”, Candice Michelle, which the company prominently featured in its commercials. Now registrar Dotster is getting into the act, introducing the first “Dotster Dot”, Heather. The company is holding four open auditions for women to become Doster Dots. The auditions will be held in Miami, Atlanta, New York, and LA over the next couple months.
GoDaddy didn’t stop with just Candice, and recently signed a deal with racing star Danica Patrick. I came across a link on GoDaddy’s site yesterday to GoDaddyGirls.com, which showed Candice and Danica, along with a third woman. The third woman was apparently a member of GoDaddy’s marketing department. That URL now just forwards to the company’s home page. Perhaps a GoDaddy lawyer explained to Bob Parsons that promoting someone based on looks is a good way to land yourself a lawsuit.
