In a sign of the domain market’s maturation, next month’s Domain Roundtable conference will include finance-related sessions.
According to a release by Name Intelligence, organizer of the conference:
On Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 9:45am, Ari Bayme of Milbank Roy & Co., an international investment banking firm focused on mergers and acquisitions, strategic advisory and financing, will be hosting “Convergence Success Story: The Wall Street Perspective on Acquiring Domain Portfoliosâ€. During this session, Bayme will share his wisdom with investors on how to understand the value of a domain portfolio and how investors and domain portfolio holders can integrate their financial goals and interests.
Wednesday afternoon at 3:45pm, portfolio holders will find “Tax Planning and Risk Management for Portfolio Holders†the next logical step on this financially focused track. Paul Keating of Renova, Ltd., a new law firm in Barcelona emphasizing on intellectual property, international tax planning and finance, will be conducting this session. Listeners will find insight on how to more effectively manage and structure their portfolios to maximize returns through efficient tax planning as well as how to limit and reduce risks and liabilities.
I’m particularly curious about the latter session. Taxes on domains can be a confusing issue. Should domains be treated as assets? Or should they be merely annual expenses? This has major tax implications.
