A look at some of the more comical domains for sale on eBay.
Every once in a while you find a good domain name for sale on eBay. Not today. Here are some of the more comical offers I found when looking through eBay’s domain name category today.
Item: TheFallofWallStreet.com Historical Domain Name!
Behold! Misery! Dow drops 777 points and you can own this domain! Just liquidate 1 million of your AIG shares to buy this domain for only $999. But don’t risk someone else bidding on it…choose the BuyItNow option for only $100,000!
Item: JP Morgan Chase – Wamu Merger Domain Name!
Would you like to be sued for $100,000? Here’s your chance! And it will only cost you $12.95.
Here’s a quote from the actual auction listing:
“This Ultra-Prime domain name will be rushed to your godaddy account within 24 hrs of your cleared paypal payment!!!”
I kid you not. What the heck is an “ultra-prime” domain, anyway? Certainly not this one.
Item: roadwalks.com – Genuine dictionary words .com
Just what is a “genuine dictionary words” domain, you ask? The seller clears it up in his description:
“I have been selling high quality premium .com domain names since 1999 and only sell genuine premium letter/word/name domains, none of this ‘numbers for letters’ or ‘hyphenated’ nonsense!”
It shows just how low eBay’s domain section has gone that you have to call your domains “genuine” if they don’t use trickery.
Item: MasterCard.tv — Rare TV Domain! No Reserve.
That JP Morgan domain looks like a bargain compared to this one (at $50). Why pay $50 to get sued when you can just pay $12.95?
Item: 9E .org Two 2 Letter Character Domain Name 3 NO RESERVE
OK, so this is actually a decent domain name. But I love how the subtitle (see above) says “Aged Top Domain Name”. What are we selling here, fine wine?
Item: NYC BKLYN.com brooklyn New York domain name sex NR 2,3
I’m not sure when it happened, but at some point people decided that a domain needs to be “rare” to sell. Now I understand labeling a two or three character domain rare, but this seller has marked all of his domains as “rare” and “very rare”. And he’s not the only one.
The description for this item is humorous too:
“EXTREMELY MARKETABLE AND VERY VERY RARE.
WILL TAKE ON MILLIONS OF HITS”
Will “take on” millions of hits? Pull out the credit card honey!

Great post! Ebay is always good for a laugh.

Hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
You look at the names that actually sell on ebay and many of them are bogus – shill bidding by fake accounts. No real investor actually sells good names on eBay because of all the crap you have to sort through to find anything good.

Great laugh. Thanks Andrew.

Hi All:
Your examples are hilarious, however, is eBay all that bad for selling domain names?
Didn’t Rick Schwartz recently put Widgets.com on eBay and receive offers of over 100K? Aren’t there several well known domain leaders who also got their start on eBay?
Think of the reach that eBay has compared to the “known venues in the domaining world.”
Thoughts….
Thanks,
Claude

i love last one throwing in sex at the end just for more results.

Claude – it used to be, but with all of the crap on there now it takes a lot to standout. There are actually filters out there that try to filter out the good domains from bad. Rick’s Widgets.com domain got attention because of the press aroudn it.
Kevin – hadn’t noticed that…funny

Too many worthless domains show up on eBay. They really do pollute the domain listings there. It’s a shame because they do have an effective auctioning platform and the feedback system is invaluable.
I suggest serious sellers list theirs domains on eBay but advertise them on their own sites or by other means. That’s what I do at http://www.LowReserveDomains.com (shameless plug)

I’m a big fan of Ebay domain sales. I think they’re interesting. Seems it’s just a bunch of amateurs trying to do quick flips. However, I believe “The Fall of Wall Street.com” sold a few days after registration for 12K and then it was back up for sale for 12.5K. Completed sales are only available for about 2-3 weeks, so I can’t confirm it. Sometimes they have some big sales though.
