Sales of domains in the $2k-$10k range continue to explode.
It’s an area of the domain name aftermarket that I refer to as the mid-market: domains that sell for a couple grand but don’t quite hit 5-figures. Although you read about all of the big 5 and 6-figure domain sales, the mid-market is actually where most of the activity takes place.
Take this past week on Afternic. The exchange completed the sales of a number of quality domains that escaped the eyes of the big guys: e-jobs.com $4,000, HomeVIDS.com $3,688, SearchHealth.com $3,388, HomeSpice.com $3,000, DiscountHealth.com $2,888, KidsLab.com $3,750, and several others. At TDNAM Lettuce.com sold for $4,002 last Thursday night. Sedo just sold uTorrent.com for $2,000 and i-Plug.com for EUR2000. This is not to mention the countless auctions at SnapNames each day that close for several thousand dollars.
Many people don’t understand is that many of the best bargains can be found in this “mid-market”. People that sell domains for 5 and 6-figures know the value of their domains and sometimes think they’re worth even more than the market can bear. Those that sell domains in the 4 figure range usually know what they’re doing but have realistic expectations. Furthermore, domains in this range receive less interest so sellers are more interested in striking a deal when they get someone on the hook. Afternic president Roger Collins recently wrote about the great values of several domains sold on his exchange.
Some of the best domains I’ve purchased were in this range. It’s worth scrolling the boards at Sedo and Afternic to find bargains in this price range. You can start by checking out the showcase domains on the left column of this page. Some of these are worth more than $10k, but many will sell for less than that.
