Listen to Domain Name Wire Podcast #5.
What’s a domain name worth? It’s the key question whenever you buy or sell a domain name. That’s part of the reason people use Estibot.com to appraise 1.8 million domain names a day.
Automated domain name valuations are not without their critics. On this week’s podcast, we chat with the guy behind the Estibot service, Luc Lezon. We discuss some of the factors in the Estibot algorithm, the challenges of domain valuation and how people use Estibot.
Also: Domain Holdings strikes it rich in China, Amazon.com’s domain-related trademark filing and a bee picks up a girl at the bar.

Estibot has it’s flaws, mainly because it can only factor in objective things like keywords, so it can’t do things like determine what sounds like a good brand.
That said, it does give you a way to compare your keyword based domains.
While I’ve never used it to price a domain per se, it did help me to decide not to accept a huge offer… when I saw it’s potential was nearly 4 times that amount.

Your Podcast really worked out great Andrew. You and Luke covered a lot of excellent ground about using Estibot and the possible advantage’s and options that could be used – like the Estibot add-on. Your sound came in Crystal Clear which made it a pleasure to listen to and take notes. Also having your past shows stay available is a big advantage to hear again if needed. Great Job and Thanks Much for the Heads Up on this great idea…
