Another “sweet” Deal Done Right By Sedo

04:42:19 - 27 March 2015

Boston, Mass. -  Sedo is fresh off a big high from our successful promotion at this year’s SXSW in Austin. Through our free “gTLD-topped” frozen yogurt food truck promotion we were able to connect with tons of both tech-savvy and non-techy savvy professionals while giving out close to 5,000 servings of frozen yogurt and almost 2,000 coffee.club cups of coffee over a five day period. We made huge strides in educating the SXSW audience about domains and what the new gTLDs could mean for them. With over 65,000 participants attending the interactive portion of the conference, a wide range of companies were represented from heavy hitters like Yahoo, Adobe, Bayer, Spotify, Mashable, GE and more to small Startups and Agencies and all were excited to get a free treat and learn about new gTLDs.

In collaboration with our partners, those with names being featured on our truck and as toppings such as .company, .direct, .media, .deals, .supply, .movie, .bike, .guru, .expert, .services, . wtf, etc.  (Donuts), .club and Startup.club (DotClub), AutoDNS.direct, .sexy, .hiphop, .pics, .tattoo, .gift, .diet, .audio , .hosting, etc. (Uniregistry), .bar and .rest (Punto2012) along with Coffee.club’s delicious fair trade coffee we were able to expose the SXSW audience to how large the domain industry presence is in the online marketing world and provide useful information from all of our sponsors. We also demonstrated that our industry is bolstered by a huge network consisting of Sedo, Registries and Registrars. We want to extend a big thank you to all our partners who supported this idea, came to cheer us on at the truck and for being great sponsors that understood the importance of creating awareness for domains and all of the new gTLDS!

As part of the fun, there was also a featured “froyo of the day” with combinations such as .sexy .club (chocolate sauce and cookie crumbles), .design .supply (mandarin orange slices and mango boba), .diamonds .deals (strawberries and rainbow sprinkles) and .hiphop .media (lucky charms and fruit loops). We also benefitted from a huge engagement through social media with an influx of new followers and mainstream and industry press coverage like this feature on CNBC  or this colorful post on Domain Name Wire.

All in all, we couldn’t be happier with the enthusiasm and response we got from everyone who stopped by our truck at SXSW, attached are just a few photos from the frenzy we created. It was eye-opening how many conversations occurred and how the dialog opened so many people’s eyes to what’s available in domains. The free frozen yogurt was simply the gateway to generating the much needed awareness around the new gTLDs and we were excited to execute this in cooperation with our very supportive partners. This was just a preview to the start of a year full of similar promotions around the world, so stay tuned and contact Carolyn Rodon for more information on how you can get involved.
