Leonard Holmes of ParkQuick reports on the Affiliate Summit auction.
I picked up a bargain domain at the Affiliate Summit domain auction last night. A few others did also, but I imagine that more than a few sellers were disappointed. Affiliate Summit has more attendees than TRAFFIC, but fewer of them are domainers or CEOs with deep pockets. It was evident from the beginning of the auction that domains would be going relatively cheap. GasolinePrices.org went for $1,250, PaycheckServices.com for $1,500 and TelephoneCenter.com went for $2,000. AffiliateDirectory.com was a steal at $30,000 – one of the few domains that drew some competition. BadBoys.com appears to have topped the list at $45,000, with PrescriptionMedication.com going for $40,000.
There’s a good analysis of the reasons for the low bidding over at Domain Name News. “Affiliate Guy” concludes that “So, you hold an auction in a room full of people who either don’t know, don’t care, don’t have the money or are there to party (cough – meet affiliates) and you very quickly find out that live domain auctions don’t work everywhere – not in grocery stores – not in empty parking lots – not at hospitals and not at the Affiliate Summit. Much like domain names, you really do get what you pay for.” I think he’s right on the money in this case. I’m happy with my bargain domain, but I don’t expect to see Monte and Moniker holding an auction at another Affiliate Summit any time soon.
Editors’ note: Moniker is waiving the $299 absentee fee for people who have bid in previous Moniker auctions. The silent auction runs through Tuesday, July 17.

If I thought I could have gotten sundries.com for $4,000 I would have placed my absentee bid.
