Keep your chin up. The year will finish strong.
This year has been one of ups and downs for domain name investors, but I have reason to be thankful as we move past Thanksgiving into the final month of the year.
1. The Yahoo-Bing transition is complete and revenue is stabilizing.
True, not all Yahoo advertisers made the move to Microsoft. But with the holidays here even more advertisers will pay attention to advertising on Bing. In the long run this partnership will be good for domain name parking.
2. Afternic’s partnerships with eNom and Moniker will be implemented next month.
This will give domainers the ability to list their domain names in the registration paths of major end-user domain name registrars. Until now you had to have your domains at Network Solutions or Register.com to get this access. If the results are anything similar to with GoDaddy’s Premium Listings service, this is going to be a home run for domainers.

but the Bing+Yahoo market share doesn’t grow and Google still dominates the Web 🙁

I have my doubts about any of either number one or two. Regarding #2 I just can’t seem to turn much with Afternic. Too many low-ballers that want to pay $200 instead of $2000 or more. I’d be surprised if that changed. 🙁
However I do think domain sales will explode in 2011 more than we have ever seen.
Direct contact, contact though parking pages, and Sedo listings are the main things that turn domains for me. The few times I have reached out to end users I have made sales also. So 2011 looks bright — just not for parking anymore, I suspect.
Unless you are right about Bing turning things around, anything besides parking will become a better alternative. I’d almost rather send my traffic to the Red Cross than let Google or Bing have it for prices they are laughing about behind our backs while they schmooze it up with the advertisers at our expense.
I say let them destroy parking by either design or complacency — I don’t care. They will create new competitors for their advertisers by stabbing us in the back. 🙂

@ You Know Me – the beauty of the Afternic Premium level solution is that most people buy at the list price without negotiating.

Glad to hear the Afternic / Moniker partnership will be kicking in next month. Looking forward to putting names in the registration path of less budget conscious end users (e.g. Netsol) without having to move names to a different registrar.

Has anyone heard talk of GoDaddy possibly joining enom, Moniker, Netsol, and Register.com?
Or should we expect GoDaddy to maintain their own channel separate apart from the rest?
Andrew Allemann says
@ M. Menius – that would be awesome, but don’t hold your breath. GoDaddy still charges 30% on this type of sale while Afternic is 20%. So by doing a deal GoDaddy would have to both lower its commission and not get as many people to move domains over to them.
However, if enough people moved their domains to Afternic partner registrars maybe they’d reconsider. I doubt it, but one can hope.

“…revenue is stabilizing”, well it is but at a very low level from what I can see.
